Position: Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) Administrator
Division: Laboratory
Classification: Full Time Exempt
Reports to: Director of Laboratory
Hours: Monday- Friday 8:30AM-5:00PM

Summary/Primary Role:
This role serves as the primary liaison between the clinical laboratory, Information Technology, vendors, and operational leadership to ensure reliable, efficient, and compliant laboratory system performance.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical aptitude with an understanding of laboratory workflows and regulatory requirements to support high-quality patient care.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Administer, maintain, and optimize the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Configure and maintain laboratory test dictionaries, reference ranges, result reporting, specimen workflows, and user permissions.
  • Collaborate with laboratory leadership, IT, and vendors to troubleshoot system issues and implement solutions.
  • Coordinate system upgrades, patches, testing, and new functionality.
  • Design, validate, and maintain laboratory interfaces with electronic medical records (EMR), analyzers, middleware, and external reference laboratories.
  • Perform system validation and testing for new instruments, assays, software updates, and workflow changes.
  • Monitor system performance and proactively identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), documentation, and training materials related to the LIS.
  • Provide end-user training and ongoing support for laboratory staff.
  • Assist with regulatory compliance activities, including CAP, CLIA, NYS Department of Health, and other applicable accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in laboratory quality improvement initiatives and special projects.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and confidentiality of laboratory information.
  • Coordinate with vendors regarding issue resolution, maintenance, and system enhancements.
  • Participate in on-call support as needed for critical laboratory system issues.
  • Proficient in supporting Orchard LIS, Athena, and middleware technologies within Histology and Clinical Laboratory settings, ensuring reliable laboratory operations, interface functionality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead system-related change initiatives, manage stakeholder expectations during implementations and upgrades, and effectively present and facilitate discussions across technical and operational teams.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, user access auditing, role-based security management, and HIPAA security requirements to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and security of laboratory information systems.
  • Develop, maintain, and test LIS downtime procedures to ensure uninterrupted laboratory operations and system resiliency.
  • Experience managing LIS implementations, upgrades, instrument integrations, or laboratory technology projects.

Qualifications:
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting a Laboratory Information System or clinical laboratory operations.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory workflows and diagnostic testing processes.
  • Experience troubleshooting software applications and technical issues.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Preferred
  • ASCP certification (MLS/MT/MLT) or equivalent laboratory certification.
  • Experience with laboratory interfaces, HL7 messaging, middleware, and analyzer connectivity.
  • Experience supporting electronic medical records (Athena, Epic, Cerner, etc.).
  • Knowledge of SQL, reporting tools, or database management.
  • Experience with laboratory accreditation and regulatory standards (CAP, CLIA, NYS DOH).

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
Expected Hours of Work:
An Employee must work a minimum of thirty (30) hours each week to maintain full-time status for benefits purposes, however the expectations of the position will require an average of forty (40) hours with overtime required as scheduled. Non-exempt employees are eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws, while exempt employees may be required to work additional hours as necessary to fulfill their job responsibilities. Overtime requirements will be determined based on the operational needs of the organization.
The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining an employee's base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and internal equity). Premier Medical Group also offers a comprehensive set of benefits to compliment the base salary. The base salary range for this position is $100,000.00- $125,000.00.
Travel Requirements: Required to float to all sites as operationally necessary.

This position operates in a clinical outpatient setting and routinely involves direct interaction with patients, providers, and clinical staff. The work environment may involve exposure to infectious disease, bodily fluids, medical equipment, cleaning agents, and varying patient conditions. Standard precautions, PPE, and adherence to safety protocols are required at all times.
