Software Tester Data Analyst information

What does a Software Tester Data Analyst do?

A Software Tester Data Analyst is responsible for evaluating software applications to ensure they function correctly and meet quality standards, while also analyzing the resulting data from testing processes. They design and execute test cases, document defects, and use data analytics to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement in both software performance and testing efficacy. Their dual focus on testing and data analysis helps organizations deliver reliable software products and make informed decisions based on test data insights.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Software Tester Data Analyst?

To thrive as a Software Tester Data Analyst, you need a solid understanding of software testing methodologies, data analysis techniques, and experience with SQL or similar query languages, often supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with testing tools like Selenium, JIRA, and data visualization platforms such as Tableau or Power BI is typically required, along with ISTQB or similar certifications. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving and communication skills make candidates stand out in this role. These competencies are crucial for accurately identifying software defects, interpreting data trends, and ensuring software quality aligns with business objectives.

How does a Software Tester Data Analyst typically collaborate with development and QA teams during a project?

Software Tester Data Analysts work closely with both development and QA teams to ensure that data-driven applications meet quality standards. They frequently participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning sessions, and review meetings to discuss test strategies, share insights from data analysis, and report bugs or anomalies. Their role often involves translating test results and data trends into actionable feedback for developers, while also helping QA teams refine test cases and automate repetitive testing tasks. This collaborative environment fosters continuous improvement and ensures that products are both functional and data-accurate.

Job description

GCyber is seeking a Software Tester / QA Analyst to validate applications, automated workflows, data solutions, system integrations, mission dashboards, and related technology capabilities for a federal customer. You will help ensure that delivered solutions are accurate, secure, reliable, usable, and ready for mission operations.
We welcome candidates from software testing, quality assurance, systems testing, functional testing, user acceptance testing, business-process testing, data validation, and API-testing backgrounds. Strong manual testers are encouraged to apply; test-automation experience is valuable but not required.
As the Software Tester/QA Analyst, you will:
  • Analyze requirements and acceptance criteria, then develop and maintain test plans, test cases, procedures, scenarios, test data, and expected results.
  • Perform applicable functional, workflow, integration, regression, system, data, interface, role-based access, performance, and user acceptance testing.
  • Validate business rules, calculations, data transformations, dashboard results, APIs, interfaces, permissions, error handling, and end-to-end mission processes.
  • Identify, document, prioritize, track, retest, and verify defects in close collaboration with developers, analysts, Product Owners, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain requirements traceability, testing evidence, results, metrics, status reporting, and release-readiness information.
  • Support test-environment preparation, test-data management, deployment validation, troubleshooting, demonstrations, and continuous improvement of quality practices.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Current DoD 8140/8570-compliant baseline certification appropriate to the assigned position, such as Security+, CySA+, GSEC, SSCP, or another approved credential.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Three or more years of relevant experience in software testing, quality assurance, systems testing, data validation, business-process testing, user acceptance testing, or a related function; equivalent education, training, certifications, and experience will be considered.
  • Experience developing and executing test cases and documenting, tracking, retesting, and verifying defects.
  • Understanding of software delivery and testing lifecycles, requirements, acceptance criteria, traceability, and release readiness, supported by strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting federal or DoD customers and Agile delivery teams.
  • Experience testing low-code applications, automated workflows, dashboards, APIs, data integrations, cloud applications, or role-based access controls.
  • Experience with Jira, Azure DevOps, Postman, Selenium, Playwright, or comparable test and defect-management tools; experience with every listed tool is not required.
  • Experience with automated testing, performance testing, accessibility testing, or security-focused validation.
