Software Engineer III - Core (Software Test Automation Engineer)
Location: Dearborn, MI
Schedule: Monday-Friday Hybrid (4 days onsite, Monday-Thursday)

Overview:
Epitec is seeking an experienced Software Engineer III - Core (Software Test Automation Engineer) to support the development and validation of advanced automotive embedded software systems. This role focuses on ECU-level (L2) testing for Body Control Module (BCM) applications within a next-generation vehicle architecture. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automotive software verification, test automation, embedded systems, and continuous integration practices.
This is an excellent opportunity for a driven engineer who is passionate about software quality, automation, and delivering reliable embedded solutions for modern vehicle platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze software requirements and develop comprehensive test strategies to ensure complete feature coverage.
- Design, author, review, and maintain ECU-level (L2) test cases in TestRail.
- Develop and execute Smoke, Sanity, Regression, Stability, and Feature Validation testing.
- Configure and integrate testing tools, automation frameworks, measurement systems, debuggers, and defect management platforms.
- Create, automate, and maintain test scripts using tools and languages such as Python, GTest, and related frameworks.
Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to provide continuous quality feedback.
- Execute automated test suites for nightly engineering builds and release builds.
- Investigate test failures, identify defects, and support defect tracking and resolution efforts.
- Generate and communicate test execution reports, coverage metrics, and quality status updates.
- Analyze requirement coverage, code coverage, and interface coverage to identify testing gaps.
- Perform root cause analysis to determine whether failures originate from the software, test environment, or automation framework.
- Continuously improve test automation coverage, including negative and edge-case scenarios.
- Update test assets as requirements, software designs, and product features evolve.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 6+ years of automotive software test automation experience.
- 6+ years of overall software engineering or IT experience.
- 3+ years of Body Control Software verification experience.
- 2+ years of ECU-level (L2) software testing experience.
- 2+ years of experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- 3+ years of experience developing test automation frameworks and scripts using tools such as Python and CAPL.
- 2+ years of experience using test management tools such as TestRail, Jama, or similar platforms.
- 1+ year of experience working within Agile development environments.
- Proficiency in at least one advanced programming language, or practical experience in multiple programming languages.
- Strong understanding of embedded software and embedded systems.
