Job Description

HII’s System Integration group is seeking a Software Test Engineer to join our Integrated Training Systems Software Development team. This full-time, on-site position is located in Virginia Beach, VA. As a Software Test Engineer, you will be a key contributor in the design, development, testing, and deployment of the Advanced Training Domain (ATD) a shipboard combat system trainer used to enhance fleet readiness.

The Software Test Engineer serves as a versatile technical professional with a blend of software engineering, systems analysis, and network integration skills. In this role, you will guide hybrid software, web, and hardware products from initial specification through deployment and maintenance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Integrating network operating systems, application software, and hardware components.
  • Managing the full development lifecycle of complex software and hardware systems, including requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, and sustainment.
  • Developing and executing Level 3 Test Procedures in alignment with Software Requirement Specifications (SRS) or equivalent documentation.
  • Performing regression testing in lab environments and aboard ship when required.
  • Providing on-site installation and system verification support (up to 10% travel).
Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • 2 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 0 years experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience.

Technical Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience in systems engineering
  • Working knowledge ofUnix and Linux platforms
  • Previous experience withC++ and Javasoftware
  • Experience in implementation and testing of Graphical User Interfaces (GUI)
  • Ability to develop a task plan and then execute the plan
  • Security+ certification (or must obtain within 3 months of hire)

Clearance Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must hold a current oractive DoD secret clearance
Preferred Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline and 5 years of relevant experience, OR
  • Master’s degree in an Engineering discipline and 3 years of relevant experience
  • Operational or development knowledge of training systems is a plus but not required
  • Possession of a current IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security, CySA+)
  • Experience with JIRA, GitHub, and subversion a plus
  • Experience with Cameo Systems Modeler (or the equivalent)
  • Experience with Automated Testing Software for RHEL 8 (and later)
Physical Requirements

May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
