The Intern (unpaid) participates in a structured learning experience designed to provide exposure to the health care industry and professional workplace practices. Under the guidance of an assigned supervisor or mentor, the intern observes business operations, participates in educational projects, and develops professional skills through job shadowing, project based learning, and other developmental activities. The internship is intended primarily for the educational benefit of the intern and complements rather than replaces the work of paid employees.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Observes/shadows employees in multiple roles/departments to understand health care operations.
  • Completes structured learning projects related to the assigned department.
  • Attend meetings, training sessions, and educational presentations.
  • Learn healthcare workflows, policies, and business processes.
  • Conducts research or prepares presentations as part of an assigned learning project.
  • Participates in professional development and networking opportunities.
  • Assists with limited administrative tasks that support learning objectives and are performed under direct supervision. Receives ongoing coaching and feedback from a designated supervisor or mentor.
  • Participates in additional learning activities consistent with the educational objectives of the internship.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA:
  • Must be enrolled in or recently graduated from high school, an accredited college, university, technical, or vocational program.
  • Pursuing a degree or certificate related to the internship area is preferred.
  • No prior professional experience required.
  • School approval may be required when applicable
  • Internship duration will generally range from 3-12 weeks (or one academic term) depending on the educational program and department needs.
