As part of the Cloud Quality Engineering team, you will contribute to automation initiatives across iOS, macOS, and Web, improving test coverage, reliability, and engineering efficiency. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design scalable automation solutions, improve product quality, and help shape the future of intelligent testing workflows within Apple’s ecosystem. Description

We are seeking a motivated and technically strong Tools and Automation Engineer to help develop, maintain, and evolve our test automation ecosystem for iCloud’s core products across iOS, macOS, and Web. You will contribute to automation frameworks, tooling, and infrastructure that enable reliable and scalable testing across large and complex systems. The ideal candidate has strong software engineering fundamentals, experience building and maintaining automation solutions, and enjoys debugging complex issues across multiple layers of the stack. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, collaborating across teams, and continuously improving automation quality, reliability, and efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated tests and supporting frameworks for iOS, macOS, and Web applications using XCTest and related technologies.
  • Partner with software engineers and cross-functional teams to improve testability, automation coverage, and overall product quality.
  • Analyze automation failures, debug complex issues, and improve test reliability and signal quality across CI environments.
  • Identify automation gaps and develop scalable solutions to improve test execution efficiency, coverage, and stability.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of internal tools, frameworks, and testing infrastructure.
  • Review existing automation systems and drive improvements in maintainability, scalability, and performance.
  • Leverage AI-assisted and agentic workflows to improve test automation, failure triage, and engineering productivity.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience in Software QA, test automation, or quality engineering.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycles, testing methodologies, and QA processes.
  • Experience developing automated tests and tooling using Swift and/or Python.
  • Experience writing and maintaining automated tests using XCTest and Xcode.
  • Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate complex technical issues independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience working with automation frameworks, CI systems, and test infrastructure.
  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building robust, maintainable, and scalable automation frameworks and tools.
  • Experience debugging automation failures and improving test reliability in large-scale environments.
  • Familiarity with API, integration, and UI automation testing strategies.
  • Strong technical understanding across Apple platforms including iOS, macOS, etc.
  • Experience collaborating across cross-functional engineering teams in fast-paced development environments.
  • Experience applying AI-based tooling to areas such as automated test generation, failure analysis, or workflow optimization.
  • Familiarity with modern AI-assisted software development workflows and their application to test automation and quality engineering.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $134,800 and $245,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
