Job description

VetsEZ is seeking a Quality Assurance (QA) Lead to lead software quality and testing activities for an enterprise Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) initiative focused on reducing and ultimately eliminating the use of Social Security Numbers (SSNs) across critical VistA applications.
The initiative will modify workflows, user interfaces, reports, audit records, and data-handling processes across ADT, PCE, AICS, Record Tracking, and VistA Audit Solutions, transitioning applicable functionality toward approved enterprise identifiers while reducing exposure of sensitive Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
Working closely with VistA developers, Business Analysts, Product Owners, cybersecurity and privacy teams, and Government stakeholders, the QA Lead will establish the overall testing strategy, lead QA execution, coordinate defect management, and ensure software releases meet functional, security, compliance, and quality requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Lead QA and testing activities across VistA applications and workflows impacted by the SSN reduction initiative.
  • Develop and maintain project-wide test strategies, plans, standards, and priorities based on requirements, risks, dependencies, and release schedules.
  • Lead and mentor QA Analysts through test planning, execution, documentation, defect management, and release validation.
  • Design and oversee functional, integration, regression, security, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Develop and manage test cases and scenarios covering SSN removal, enterprise identifiers, workflow and UI changes, reports, audit records, interfaces, and related functionality.
  • Ensure comprehensive end-to-end test coverage and coordinate testing across development, QA, and business teams.
  • Lead defect triage, prioritization, retesting, and closure while monitoring quality risks and defect trends.
  • Support release-readiness reviews and provide quality recommendations to project leadership and Government stakeholders.
  • Maintain traceability between requirements, test cases, defects, and validation results.
  • Ensure testing addresses applicable privacy, PII/PHI, security, and NIST-related requirements and maintain documentation supporting auditability.
  • Coordinate UAT with clinical, administrative, and Government stakeholders.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and provide QA input during requirements and design activities to ensure requirements and acceptance criteria are testable.
  • Identify opportunities for test automation and communicate testing status, risks, dependencies, and impediments to project leadership.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Health Informatics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of software quality assurance experience supporting healthcare IT or complex enterprise systems.
  • 2+ years of experience as a QA Lead, Test Lead, QA Manager, or comparable quality leadership role.
  • Experience developing and executing comprehensive test strategies across functional, integration, regression, and UAT.
  • Experience with defect management, release validation, requirements traceability, QA metrics, and reporting.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum software development environments.
  • Strong knowledge of test case and test script development, test automation concepts, and QA best practices.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead and collaborate with distributed QA teams and technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Additional Qualifications
  • Experience testing Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) VistA applications.
  • Familiarity with MUMPS-based application environments.
  • Experience with ADT, PCE, AICS, Record Tracking, VistA Audit Solutions, or related VistA applications.
  • Knowledge of PII/PHI handling, HIPAA, NIST SP 800-53, FISMA, and VA privacy and security requirements.
  • Experience implementing or managing automated software testing.
  • Experience supporting Federal healthcare applications or other highly regulated systems.
