The Software Development Manager is responsible for leading a team of software engineers to build scalable and flexible software systems across Flexe. We are looking for a passionate, results driven leader who has led teams of 5 or more senior level engineers. You bring proven experience building successful customer facing software products, and using AI tools to accelerate the development lifecycle. Highly technical, should be able to lead strong design reviews, deep dive into issues/tradeoffs, good design skills in order to build the new product roadmap.
This is a hybrid position based in Seattle, WA. Team members are expected to work in-office three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday), with remote work on Monday and Friday.
Job Responsibilities
[20%] Hire, manage, and grow a software engineering team (8-10 engineers)
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of team building, including recruiting and onboarding top engineering talent, based on business needs.
  • Own the coaching and career development of your direct reports, managing performance and identifying areas for growth.
  • Foster an inclusive, high-performing culture that empowers engineers to deliver their best work while continuing to grow and expand on their technical skills.

[20%] Work with Product Managers on strategy and roadmap development for short, medium and long term objectives.
  • Own the technical vision and roadmap of Flexe's software systems. .
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team including product management, project management, design, operations, business development, and executive teams to bring ideas to market.
  • Translate business requirements into clear technical priorities, align engineering initiatives with broader company objectives, and manage stakeholder expectations.

[30%] Work across engineering to make sure our software architecture is highly available and scalable.
  • Direct the team to build scalable and flexible software systems that are capable of handling enterprise-level demands.
  • Lead strong design reviews, deep dive into complex technical issues and trade-offs, and apply good design skills to build the new product roadmap.
  • Partner with broader engineering leadership to ensure system interoperability, manage cross-team dependencies, and establish a resilient infrastructure.

[30%] Promote best practices in software design, development, test and deployment.
  • Define, implement, and enforce engineering and architectural standards to ensure high-quality software delivery.
  • Drive operational excellence by overseeing rigorous testing standards, code reviews, continuous integration, and safe deployment methodologies.
  • Act as a technical guide to resolve high-level architectural problems, ensuring the software delivered meets rigorous engineering quality bars.
  • Champion the adoption of AI-assisted development tools and workflows to increase team velocity and code quality
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • 5 years of hands-on software development experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in managing, mentoring, and leading software engineering teams.
  • A proven track record of building successful enterprise or consumer facing products as a software engineer, tech lead or software development manager.
  • Excellent software project management skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, both technical and non-technical.
  • Deep understanding of software architecture and software development best practices.
  • Strong quantitative data analysis and critical thinking skills
  • Startup and Supply Chain experience is a plus
  • Experience designing and launching new software systems from the ground up

The salary range for this role is $182,750 to $256,800 depending, in part, on candidate location. Recruiting will confirm the specific range for the candidate location in the initial phone screen. All employees receive company equity as part of their compensation package.
