Simulation Software Engineer

The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Senior Simulation Software Engineer to support our Simulation Engineering and Enablement team located in Tukwila, WA. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Enterprise Simulation, Test, and Analysis Framework (BESTAF) Organization.

The Boeing Company is seeking an experienced and motivated software engineer to lead our advanced simulation framework team. This team is responsible for development of simulation executive software, utilities, and tools used to develop, build and execute complex vehicle simulations. These simulations are used interactively in the Boeing cloud, on engineering workstations and in hardware-in-the-loop test bench and flight deck environments. The simulation framework has components in Rust, C/C++, Python, Java, and targets both Windows and Linux platforms.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead a fast paced Agile development team, implement customer requirements, demonstrate progress and capabilities to customers and stakeholders, and lead detailed planning

  • Support the entire software development lifecycle (design, review, code, test, deliver, maintain)

  • Dedication to unit testing, test driven development, continuous integration and continuous development practices

  • Documentation of system architecture, design and operation

  • Customer support, training, consulting, problem investigation and debugging

  • Engage with domestic and international business partners to successfully develop software and simulation solutions used across the enterprise

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelors Degree

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship 7+ years experience in embedded software engineering or similar classification.

  • 5+ years of experience in developing simulation related software

  • 5+ years of professional hands-on experience with software development tools in the following areas: requirements management (e.g., Jama), backlog management and collaboration (e.g., Confluence, JIRA, Crowd), CI/CD (e.g., Artifactory/Xray, GitLab, Jenkins), testing (e.g., Micro Focus ALM, LRE, JMeter), and code quality/security (e.g., SonarQube, Coverity)

  • 7+ years of experience in software development life cycles, configuration management and best agile software engineering practices

  • 5+ years of experience with software development programs such as Red Hat Linux systems

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 9+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor's Degree and 13+ years of directly related work experience OR 17+ years of related, relevant experience

  • Programming experience in any of the following: Rust, C/C++, Python, C#, Ada

  • Ability to coordinate globally distributed teams toward organizational and simulation product goals

  • Authorized Individual training or certification in support of export control and Global Trade Compliance (GTC) requirements

  • Experience with configuration management tools (Git, RCS, CVS, SVN)

  • Experience with variety of workflow management concepts and approaches (Agile, SAFE, Paired programming)

  • Experience with COTS modeling and simulation tools like Matlab/Simulink

  • Experience and ability to apply concepts related to databases (MySQL, SQLite, Neo4j)

  • Experience and ability to apply concepts related to containerized software and environments (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, Openshift)

  • Model Based Engineering concept familiarity

  • Formal Agile training (Product Owner, Scrum Master, SAFE principles)

  • Comfortable employing emerging AI technologies
