Description

Direct responsibility for performing and overseeing the predictive and preventive maintenance on equipment on CMMS system and all maintenance activities in the organization, will collaborate with Maintenance planner and tool crib person to develop standards, processes, schedules, safe procedures and systems that support the achievement of overall safety and business objectives for the manufacturing plant.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Serves as a Merchants Metals safety champion in every activity. Proactively identifies potentially unsafe situations and immediately resolves and/or raises awareness to the appropriate individual(s). 

  • LOTO Experience with the ability to recognize and manage hazardous energy sources machine by machine.
  • Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas.
  • Able to perform risk analysis before LOTO and work perform in equipment
  • Acts as a driver of safety providing ideas, insights, highlighting risks and influencing others to address safety issues. Implements risk mitigating activities and improvements.
  • Direct supervision and guidance to front-line maintenance associates. Coordinates, organizes, and actively participates in daily maintenance activities with the team of technicians.     
  • Lead, coach, and develop planning and reliability team, as well as operations technical resources.
  • Creating a positive work environment that engages associates & technicians.
  • Completes performance reviews, merit increases, associate development plans and disciplinary action if needed. 
  • Develops, implements, sustains, & continuously improves processes that deliver results meeting or exceeding business targets      related to equipment performance, production performance, uptime, preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance and facilities.
  • Works and manages reports from CMMS system and analyzes data for Work orders, logged hours in the system, identifies opportunities on Preventive vs Reactive maintenance and proposes solutions to transition into a preventive environment in the plant.
  • Develops and executes a preventive maintenance and predictive maintenance program, based on trends and data from our CMMS system.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in a disciplined manner and effectively propose and carry out effective solutions.
  • Performs highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment.
  • Maintains alignment to the business goals and provides ongoing needed support from maintenance team across the site.
  • Manages and provides support for new installations, new equipment, troubleshooting equipment with experts outside our organization and coordinates the resolution of the damaged equipment.
  • Partners with EHS, Quality, Plant Engineer, and other teams regularly. 
  • Responds to emergency calls as necessary.
  • Coordinates daily maintenance activities, reviews, assigns work, and organizes employee schedules. 
  • Works hand to hand if needed with Tool crib coordinator for spare parts, new equipment or needs for the existing assets in the plant.
  • Reads and assigns if needed work orders and specifications.    
  • Identifies equipment requiring repair or maintenance. 
  • Inspects or test damaged machine parts and marks defective areas.      
  • Collaborates with supervisors to ensure all repair, preventative maintenance and predictive maintenance needs are completed on time and correctly. 
  • Diagnoses problems, replaces or repair parts, tests, and adjusts as  needed.
  • Collaborates with other workers to repair or move machines, machine parts, or equipment. 

Requirements

NECESSARY SKILLS, BACKGROUND & COMPENTENCIES:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in maintenance management
  • Proven ability to develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Bilingual English & Spanish is desirable.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in CMMS software

  • Strong mechanical abilities coupled with extensive knowledge & experience in troubleshooting drives, motors and controls.
  • Ability and willingness to work both strategically and hands on.       
  • Ability to operate forklifts, hand tools, air Impact tools, grinders, hacksaws, power tools, and all safety equipment. 
  • Ability to safely climb and perform work at heights from ladders and/or scaffolding. 
  • Must be comfortable and able to work effectively while exposed to fumes, airborne particles, high volume decibels, extreme hot & cold environments, moving mechanical parts and vibrations on a regular basis. 
  • Must be capable of standing for extended periods of time, frequent bending/stooping, lifting up to 60 pounds.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Degree and/or other higher education completed in mechanical, electronics or related field preferred.      
  • Green Belt Six Sigma 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing maintenance environment necessary.
  • 3+ years of direct employee supervision.
