Kind of Work Beginning professional civil engineering work in the research, design and construction of engineering projects; and related work as required. AND Possession of a certificate from the Louisiana State Board of Professional Engineers and Land surveyors stating that the applicant has been certified and enrolled as an Engineer Intern.* IMPORTANT: Out-of-State registrations are acceptable

However, any applicant who is not registered as an Engineer Intern in Louisiana must, if hired, show proof of such registration during his or her probationary period. No person may receive permanent status until this requirement has been met, and no probationary period may extend longer than one (1) year. Field work may be required for some engineering positions.

WORKING TEST PERIOD: Effective August 1, 2023, the working test (probationary) period for all positions in the classified service is one year. SUBSTANCE ABUSE TESTING: The City of New Orleans has a comprehensive program of substance abuse testing.
