Intern, Manufacturing Engineering, Research and Development
*This is an internship for the fall 2026 semester (September-December). Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Position Summary: The Intern, Manufacturing Engineering will learn to implement manufacturing processes for new and existing product designs and provide production floor support. The intern will work in a team environment with the support of full time Manufacturing Engineers. Emphasis will be placed on CNC machining and assembly of precision firearm components utilizing clearly defined technical drawings and interchangeable parts.
FLSA: Non-exempt
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Learn to plan and design manufacturing processes.
  • Learn to implement manufacturing processes for new and existing firearm product designs while providing budgetary estimates for equipment, tools, gages, and production rates.
  • Use project management techniques to procure tooling and equipment for new products to meet launch timelines and cost targets.
  • Learn to evaluate and improve product designs for Manufacturability while applying GD&T and dimensional stack-ups.
  • Provide production floor support to maintain output and quality for technical systems and manufacturing processes including:
    • High volume CNC machining
    • Machine and Tool Design
    • Assembly
    • Metal finishing
    • Automation
  • Originate and develop new systems and processes and implement into full production.
  • Debug and runoff new capital equipment in order to meet plant goals for quality, throughput, and cost.
  • Recommend and implement alterations and enhancements to improve quality of products, and/or procedures, and the output and quality of manufacturing processes.
  • Resolve quality issues related to product and processes using statistical methods.
  • Provides consultation on problem solving teams and complete assigned tasks per agreed upon timelines.
  • Regular on-site attendance and punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
  • May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Education/Experience & Skills:
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Proficiency with SOLIDWORKS or similar CAD system.
  • Good working knowledge of materials and heat-treating processes.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Must be organized, able to work in a team, plan, and execute multiple projects.
  • Written and verbal communication of complicated subjects is required.
  • Must be able to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Must have strong analytical skills, basic manufacturing process knowledge, and basic project management skills.

Working Conditions:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
