Job description

The Engineer II, Software Integration Engineer, will support our SIS team in deploying and configuring security solutions that facilitate protection of the nation's critical infrastructure. Working under the guidance of the Project Engineering Lead, the Engineer II executes assigned work across all phases of The SIS Standard Engineering Process (TSSEP), takes ownership of defined process areas, and contributes to the delivery of quality, compliant systems to our customers.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES & CORE FUNCTIONS
Project Execution & Process Adherence
  • Execute assigned tasks throughout the entire project lifecycle in accordance with the TSSEP, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and release activities.
  • Follow all SIS ISO, CMMI, and software engineering policies and procedures in performing day-to-day activities on assigned projects.
  • Ensure assigned tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships by delivering consistent, high-quality interactions that drive trust, satisfaction, and long-term partnership beyond system implementation
  • Own specific projects, collaborating with Software Integration Engineers or the PEL, while proactively identifying issues early and clearly communicating blockers.

Requirements & Design
  • Review and contribute to project Design Change Forms (DCFs) and Change Requests (CRs), ensuring requirements are clearly understood before implementation begins.
  • Participate in Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) reviews and support accurate requirements capture in the Requirements Management Tool (RMT).
  • Participate in internal design reviews including Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Reviews (CDR), contributing discipline-specific input.

Implementation
  • Implement software changes in accordance with approved DCFs and CRs, ensuring the implementation aligns with the detailed design.
  • Participate in all aspects of system installation, configuration, and integration on assigned projects, including database builds, software deployment, and software configuration.
  • Contribute to the development of project deliverables.

Testing & Verification
  • Support functional testing, integration testing, Pre-FAT, and FAT activities, including investigation and resolution of identified issues.
  • Contribute to the preparation of test result documentation.

Configuration Management & TRB
  • Prepare CRs accurately, ensuring proper documentation of changes and timely processing.
  • Participate in Technical Review Board (TRB) meetings and support proper dispositioning of CRs.

Milestone Reviews
  • Prepare and contribute discipline-specific input for project milestone reviews.
  • Customer & Team Collaboration
  • Establish effective working relationships with project team members and cross-functional departments.
  • Participate in onsite installation and commissioning activities on assigned projects.

Other
  • Demonstrate a strong passion for learning by actively acquiring and continually deepening knowledge of SIS Security Systems products, services, and platform capabilities.
  • 25% travel required.
  • This is a full-time, in-office position.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS
  • Required
    • Bachelor's degree in the appropriate discipline and 1-2 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 5 years of relevant experience is required. Bachelor's degree in STEM is preferred.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills required to interface with vendors and customers (internal and external).
    • Ability to work both independently and in a cross-functional team environment, with a developing ability to self-direct on assigned process areas.
    • Eagerness to learn new technologies and apply them to current and future projects.
    • Experience in application design, implementation, and installation of real-time computer-based process control systems.
    • Experience in systems integration, including all phases of the software/system development life cycle.
    • Familiarity with structured engineering processes, requirements traceability, and configuration management practices.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft O365 applications, basic understanding of network architecture (including Cisco IOS), and experience working with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle).

  • Preferred
    • Experience in application design, implementation, and installation of real-time computer-based process control systems.
    • Familiarity with C/C++ or C#, experience with Visual Studio (2012/2019), Crystal Reports, and version control tools such as Git.
    • Microsoft Active Directory.
    • Installation and configuration of networking devices.
    • Installation and configuration of video surveillance systems.
    • Software development life cycle experience, including Waterfall, Incremental, and Agile methodologies.
