Job Summary
Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Software Engineering in the Department of Software Engineering and Game Development with a preferred start date of August 2027. This is a nine-month contracted position and is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in software engineering, including modern Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes, AI-augmented development practices, and software architecture for AI-enabled systems.
- Design and propose new courses and modules that bring AI-native engineering practices, including AI-assisted coding, LLM/agent orchestration, RAG architectures, MLOps, and AI-aware testing and evaluation, into the BSSWE and MSSWE programs.
- Establish or continue an active research program in software engineering including pursuit of external funding.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students, including thesis and capstone supervision.
- Contribute to departmental, college, and university service, and help guide the department's AI-integration strategy.
- Engage with industry partners to keep curriculum and research grounded in current practice, including internship pipelines and applied/sponsored projects.
Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Earned Ph.D, or the foreign equivalent, in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline is required at the time of hire.
- Demonstrated expertise or a research trajectory in software engineering, with experience or interest in one or more of the following: applied machine learning, DevOps, MLOps, or intelligent and secure software systems.
- Evidence of high-quality teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level.
- Evidence of a productive research and scholarship agenda, including publication and funding record, such as proposal preparation and grant project participation, appropriate to career stage.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry experience in software engineering or AI/ML engineering roles, such as internships, full-time positions, or consulting work; extensive industry tenure is not required.
- Familiarity with or direct experience in AI-native engineering workflows: AI-assisted coding tools, agent engineering, RAG pipelines, or LLM evaluation.
- Exposure to client-facing or deployment-oriented engineering work (e.g., forward deployed engineering, solutions engineering, applied AI consulting).
- A track record of, or strong interest in, building relationships with partners for sponsored research, internships, or applied projects
