Job description

SYSTRA Canada is part of the SYSTRA group, an international consulting and engineering group, a world leader in the design of transport infrastructures. SYSTRA Canada is an engineering and consulting firm whose primary focus is to offer transportation solutions, whether for passengers or goods: feasibility studies of building a new railway line, increasing the capacity of the existing infrastructure, privatization of a railway.


The mechanical intern will primarily provide assistance for technical documentation, project administration, and quality control inspection/audits. Working mostly from SYSTRA’s Montreal office, the selected candidate will support the design of structures, interior finishing, and different systems and components of passenger railway vehicles. This internship is offered for fall 2026. 


Under the supervision of the project manager, the project engineer, and other team members, the intern will work within the design and coordination team to accomplish the following tasks:

  • Maintain material inventory and exchange summaries;
  • Support quality control activities, including production floor inspections and manufacturer auditing;
  • Assist with internal periodic reporting, KPI evaluation, and schedule tracking;
  • Interpret drawings for modification, fabrication, assembly, and installation of railway vehicle components and systems;
  • Aid in the design of mechanical or structural components of railway cars;
  • Contribute to the creation of assembly methods for finishing interior elements according to applicable standards and based on fabrication tolerances;
  • Reconcile the materials list for the fabrication of pieces and sets, and their installation on the vehicles.

Education and skills required:

  • Studies in Mechanical Engineering;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel (macros), and PowerPoint is mandatory;
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written) in French and English;
  • Good capacity to produce and review technical documents in French and English;
  • Knowledge of 3D drawing software is an asset;
  • Experience in the railway, transport, industrial, or carpentry fields is an asset.
