Manufacturing Systems Engineer – Industrial Software & Digital Manufacturing Company Overview

Role Overview

Mitsubishi Power is hiring a Manufacturing Systems Engineer for the Savannah Machinery Works location.  The Manufacturing Systems Engineer – Industrial Software & Digital Manufacturing is responsible for developing, implementing, integrating, and governing manufacturing software systems supporting gas turbine component manufacturing operations. This role serves as the technical owner for Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), SCADA platforms, machine connectivity, production data architecture, SAP integration, Windchill integration, traceasbility systems, and manufacturing analytics.

The position establishes and maintains manufacturing systems standards, User Requirements Specifications (URS), Functional Design Specifications (FDS), technical specifications, data standards, and integration requirements to support a scalable digital manufacturing ecosystem. The role partners with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality, IT, Automation Engineering, vendors, and system integrators to connect manufacturing equipment, enterprise systems, and reporting platforms across conventional and non-conventional manufacturing processes including CNC machining, EDM, welding, coating, inspection, robotic cells, gantry systems, and automated part processing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership.
  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing systems architecture for a digitally connected production environment.
  • Own integration and connectivity between MES, SCADA, SAP, Windchill, machine controls, automation systems, quality systems, maintenance systems, databases, historians, and reporting platforms.
  • Establish standards for machine connectivity, data architecture, asset structures, naming conventions, traceability, cybersecurity, system validation, and ISA-95-compliant integration.
  • Configure, deploy, support, and optimize MES, SCADA, manufacturing databases, analytics platforms, dashboards, and reporting solutions.
  • Develop and maintain interfaces between manufacturing equipment, automation systems, ERP, PLM, CMMS, QMS, and business intelligence platforms.
  • Design solutions for production monitoring, OEE tracking, downtime analysis, alarm management, quality data collection, traceability, and operational performance reporting.
  • Develop technical specifications, user requirements, data flow documentation, interface requirements, and acceptance criteria for manufacturing software and automation projects.
  • Support capital projects, equipment deployments, factory commissioning, and startup activities by defining software, data, reporting, and integration requirements.
  • Review supplier software architectures, integration designs, and commissioning plans to ensure compliance with business and technical requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system integration issues across manufacturing, automation, data, and enterprise systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance data integrity, operational visibility, traceability, throughput, and overall manufacturing performance.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting manufacturing software, industrial automation, systems integration, MES, SCADA, ERP/PLM integration, databases, reporting systems, and shop-floor data collection.
  • Experience developing technical specifications, interface requirements, data standards, validation plans, and acceptance criteria.
  • Proven ability to work across manufacturing, engineering, IT, quality, maintenance, vendors, and system integrators in a production environment.
  • Experience in gas turbine, aerospace, power generation, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • Experience supporting facility startups, factory commissioning, automated manufacturing cells, or major capital projects is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing software platforms, industrial automation, machine connectivity, and production data systems.
  • Proficient with MES, SCADA/HMI, SAP, Windchill, Ignition, SQL databases, Power BI, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiarity with PLC integration, industrial communication protocols, System 3R/Erowa automation, and manufacturing reporting and analytics tools.
  • Working knowledge of CNC, EDM, laser processing, welding, coating, inspection systems, robotics, gantry automation, and RTU/cell management systems is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, prepare reports and presentations, perform data analysis, and make sound decisions based on technical requirements and business needs.
