Job summary

A Senior Software Engineer with exceptional data and software engineering skills, and a passion for building data-centric applications is to join our team of software developers, data scientists and product owners to support and expand KBI's Digital Transformation vision. He or she will contribute to our current and future digital portfolio by using cutting-edge technologies, develop innovative approaches, with the ultimate purpose to enhance the quality and speed of drug development using software and data solutions. The role entails developing solutions to solve complex scientific and data problems. The ideal talent thrives in a fast-paced, technically complex, and business and market-driven environments. This position is designed to help lead KBI's data and software capabilities by focusing on expanding our cloud-based custom-built platforms and products that support biopharmaceutical processes and support data exchange, data visualization, statistical analysis and reporting capabilities.


Job Responsibilities

  • Developing, maintaining, enhancing and reviewing software solutions and data analysis tools to enable scientific insight, leveraging the existing landscape of open-source and proprietary packages developed at KBI.
  • Apply industry best practices and design patterns to distill fast-moving product requirements into state-of-the-art designs/architecture recommendations and tangible engineering tasks, to develop solutions that deliver target business goals, and support KBI's Digital Transformation goals.
  • Working closely with our SMEs to build tools or applications with a strong focus on data-driven decisions.
  • Shaping up our engineering culture by coming up with new ideas, tools, and best practices wherever better approaches can lead to higher quality, or faster time-to-market for digital products.
  • Interfacing with scientists, engineers, software developers and management to contribute to the team's vision, mission and approach to delivering Digital Transformation.
  • Owning projects end-to-end: from design, to working with product owners, contributing to backlog maintenance when needed, through development, to production and support.
  • Providing code review, and training to fellow software developers internal to KBI, as well as external developers from consulting teams.
  • Keeping up with software best practices and software technologies, especially open-source and technologies enabling cloud-based data products.
  • Support promoting digital mindset and better data and software awareness and practices throughout KBI as the company to expands its use and understanding of digital solutions.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Chemical Engineering or another field with substantial Computer Science training or equivalent skills acquired through professional experience.
  • 5+ years working developing software, preferably with a scientific and/or data focus.
  • Strong understanding of 2 or more modern software development languages, preferably Python and Javascript/Typescript.
  • 5+ years of experience and proven track record delivering products with the following or similar technologies: Python, node.js , Python and/or Javascript frameworks for application development such as React, next.js, Flask, Django, streamlit, AWS services such as Redshift Redshift spectrum and RDS, data technologies such as Pandas, NumPy, Airbyte and DBT, testing frameworks such as pytest or playwright, orchestration technologies such as Github actions and Airflow.
  • Strong understanding of computer architecture and software architecture in cloud environments.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, and a desire to tackle challenging engineering problems through simple and maintainable software solutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong relationships with end-users, other development team members, and all stakeholders.
  • Customer focus with the emotional intelligence to collaborate with users to gather requirements to enable workflow and feature definition.
  • A passion for technology and a desire to always discover and learn about new technology that accelerate software development and/or improve its robustness.


Additional skills and experience considered a plus:

  • 2 or more years in apharma or other regulated environment.
  • Experience with using Agile methodologies (e.g. Scrum), ideally in a regulated environment.
