Their responsibilities may include coding, testing, and assisting in the design of applications. This role helps bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world software development practices. It is an opportunity to develop technical skills and gain industry exposure before advancing to a full-time software engineering role.

What kind of mentorship or training can I expect as a software engineer trainee?

As a Software Engineer Trainee, you can typically expect to receive structured onboarding, ongoing mentorship from experienced engineers, and participation in regular training sessions. Most teams pair trainees with more senior developers for code reviews, guidance on best practices, and support in understanding project workflows. You may also be encouraged to work on small projects or contribute to larger initiatives to apply your learning in real-world situations. This hands-on, supportive environment is designed to accelerate your growth and help you build the skills needed for a successful software engineering career.

Job description

This is a full-time, on-site position at our Rocklin, CA manufacturing facility. Remote and hybrid work arrangements are not available for this role.

Roseville Precision Inc. is seeking an experienced Sheet Metal CAD/CAM Programmer to join our precision manufacturing team in Rocklin, California.

We are looking for someone who already has a solid working foundation in Amada sheet metal programming and precision sheet metal fabrication and can begin contributing to production after learning our internal processes and standards.

This is not an entry-level or trainee position. We are not expecting the successful candidate to know every machine or software package in our facility, but they must have practical programming experience and a strong understanding of how sheet metal parts are actually manufactured.
Our facility includes Amada punch and laser equipment, TRUMPF press brakes, and HAAS CNC mills. The primary focus of this position is programming and supporting sheet metal production, with opportunities to learn and support additional equipment and software as the company continues to grow.

Because this role works closely with our machines, operators, Engineering, Quality, and Production teams, the programmer must be available on-site to support manufacturing and troubleshoot issues directly on the shop floor.

What You'll Do:
  • Program and optimize Amada punch and laser equipment for production.
  • Review customer drawings, CAD models, flat patterns, specifications, and job requirements.
  • Create accurate and efficient machine programs.
  • Develop efficient nests to improve material utilization and machine productivity.
  • Develop and review flat patterns using proper bend deductions and bend allowances.
  • Select appropriate tooling and manufacturing methods based on part geometry, material, tolerances, and production requirements.
  • Develop and support bend sequences and forming instructions for press brake operations.
  • Review jobs for manufacturability and identify potential production problems before they reach the shop floor.
  • Work directly with machine operators to troubleshoot programming, tooling, forming, and production issues.
  • Support first articles, prototypes, revisions, and ongoing production jobs.
  • Improve programs and manufacturing processes to help reduce setup time, scrap, and unnecessary machine time.
  • Maintain organized program files, documentation, and revision control.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Scheduling to keep jobs moving accurately and efficiently.
  • Learn and support new programming platforms, equipment, and manufacturing technologies as Roseville Precision continues to grow and invest in its capabilities.

Minimum Experience Required:
This is an experienced-level position. Candidates should already have practical sheet metal programming experience and be able to contribute with a reasonable level of independence after becoming familiar with Roseville Precision's processes.

We are looking for candidates with:
  • Professional experience programming in a precision sheet metal fabrication environment.
  • Hands-on programming experience with Amada punch and/or laser equipment.
  • Experience with AP100 or similar Amada programming software.
  • Practical understanding of CNC programming and sheet metal manufacturing processes.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Flat pattern development.
    • Bend deductions and bend allowances.
    • Nesting.
    • Material utilization.
    • Punch and laser tooling.
    • Press brake forming principles.
    • Machine capabilities and manufacturing limitations.
  • Ability to read and interpret customer drawings, blueprints, tolerances, and manufacturing specifications.
  • Ability to review a part and identify potential programming or manufacturing problems before production.
  • Ability to support machine operators and troubleshoot programming and production issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with Engineering and shop-floor production personnel.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site at our Rocklin, CA facility.

Programming and Software Experience:
We are especially interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
  • Amada punch and laser equipment.
  • AP100.
  • FabriWIN.
  • Amada VPSS or similar programming systems.
  • SolidWorks or similar CAD software.

We are willing to train an experienced programmer on additional software and equipment. However, we are looking for someone who already understands the fundamentals of sheet metal programming and manufacturing.

Additional Experience That Is a Plus:
Experience in any of the following areas is helpful, but not required:
  • TRUMPF press brakes or press brake programming.
  • HAAS or other CNC machining equipment.
  • CNC machining programming.
  • ECI JobBOSS or other ERP/MRP systems.
  • ISO and/or AS9100 manufacturing environments.
  • High-mix precision sheet metal manufacturing.
  • Prototype and production manufacturing.
  • Process improvement and manufacturing optimization.

Why Join Roseville Precision?:
At Roseville Precision, this position is more than sitting at a computer and generating machine programs.
Our programmers work directly with the people manufacturing the parts and have the opportunity to influence how jobs are programmed, formed, machined, and produced.
We value programmers who understand the relationship between the drawing, the program, the machine, the operator, and the finished part.
You will have the opportunity to work with a broad range of manufacturing equipment while continuing to develop your skills as Roseville Precision adds new technology, software, equipment, and capabilities.
We are looking for someone who enjoys solving manufacturing problems, improving processes, supporting production, and working as part of a team.

Benefits:
Roseville Precision offers:
  • Medical insurance.
  • Dental insurance.
  • Vision insurance.
  • Life insurance.
  • 401(k).
  • Paid time off.
  • On-the-job learning and opportunities for professional growth.

Who Should Apply?:
We encourage you to apply if you have real-world sheet metal programming experience, especially with Amada equipment and AP100 or similar programming software, even if you have not worked with every machine or software package used at Roseville Precision.
We are looking for someone who can bring useful experience from day one while continuing to learn and grow with the company.

Please note: This is a full-time, on-site manufacturing position in Rocklin, California. Remote and hybrid work arrangements are not available.
