As a Full Time Broadband Engineering Specialist at the City of Pharr, you will play a crucial role in field operations and fiber optic construction. Your responsibilities will include inspecting underground infrastructure such as conduits, hand holes, and vaults for defects, implementing repairs, and using standardized checklists for reporting. You will conduct fusion splicing with minimal loss, interpret construction blueprints to ensure accurate cable routing, and oversee subcontractors to maintain compliance with project specifications and safety protocols.
Additionally, you will be responsible for pre-construction audits, conducting quality control tests post-installation, and ensuring adherence to TxDOT and OSHA safety standards. Your work will involve thorough documentation and reporting, including the use of metadata for work phase photography and the generation of daily reports. In this dynamic position, you will also troubleshoot technical issues, participate in development reviews, and ensure compliance with data security regulations, all while contributing to the growth of Pharr's broadband infrastructure.

Familiarity with network diagnostic tools and broadband ISP networks is essential, ensuring quick resolution of technical issues. A detail-oriented mindset with robust problem-solving skills is crucial for conducting thorough inspections and maintaining quality control. Candidates should also be adept in using job-related networking and diagnostic equipment, including OTDRs, VFLs, and power meters. Proficiency in computer software such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, GIS, and Adobe is expected, alongside the ability to read and interpret GIS maps and construction schematics.
Furthermore, a customer-centric attitude and professional appearance are vital, as you will engage with various stakeholders while managing tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
  • Must be knowledgeable on the practices and principles of fiber to the home/premise networks (FTTX).
  • Knowledge of implementing, managing, and monitoring local, and wide area networks.
  • Knowledge of implementing, managing, and monitoring wireless networks.
  • Knowledge of network diagnostic tools and in broadband ISP networks. Capable of working in a fast-paced environment and effectively managing tasks/projects.
