I. Job Description

Noble Plastics is seeking a Senior Metrology Technician / CMM Programmer to serve as the technical expert for dimensional measurement systems and inspection methodology. This position is responsible for developing, validating, and maintaining dimensional inspection programs and methods that ensure accurate, repeatable, and reliable measurement results.

The Senior Metrology Technician partners closely with Engineering, Quality, Production, Tooling, and Customers to support new product launches, process validation, capability studies, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position serves as the primary technical authority for dimensional measurement and inspection methods within the organization.

ITAR regulations require U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status.

II. Required Skills

• Comprehensive knowledge of CMM setup, programming, operation, and troubleshooting

• Advanced understanding of ASME Y14.5 GD&T principles and applications

• Advanced knowledge of dimensional measurement principles including alignments, datum structures, probing strategies, fixture design, and measurement uncertainty

• Ability to independently develop CMM programs from CAD models and engineering drawings

• Experience using CMM programming software (Polyworks preferred), CAD software, Excel, and statistical analysis tools

• Ability to evaluate and validate measurement methodologies to ensure alignment with engineering intent

• Advanced knowledge of Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Gage R&R, bias, linearity, and stability studies

• Ability to conduct capability studies and interpret Cp, Cpk, Pp, and Ppk results

• Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills

• Ability to communicate technical findings to Engineering, Production, Customers, and Management

• Strong organization, prioritization, documentation, and project management skills

• Ability to mentor and train quality technicians and inspectors

• Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies and statistical process improvement techniques

III. Essential Functions

Metrology Leadership

• Serve as the primary technical authority for dimensional measurement systems

• Establish and maintain company standards for dimensional inspection and CMM programming

• Develop and validate measurement strategies that accurately represent engineering requirements

• Review and approve dimensional inspection methods and measurement plans

• Investigate and resolve dimensional measurement discrepancies

CMM Programming & Inspection

• Develop, validate, and maintain complex CMM programs using PolyWorks

• Create and maintain inspection setup sheets and standard work instructions

• Design and implement fixture and workholding solutions to improve measurement repeatability

• Perform first article inspections, capability studies, validation studies, and special inspection projects

• Maintain organized revision history of all inspection programs and measurement methodologies

Measurement System Analysis

• Lead Gage R&R studies and other Measurement System Analysis activities

• Evaluate and improve measurement system repeatability and reproducibility

• Analyze capability data and provide recommendations for process improvement

• Support DOE activities and process validation studies

New Product Development Support

• Support Engineering during product development and launch activities

• Review engineering drawings and GD&T requirements for measurement feasibility

• Develop inspection plans and measurement strategies for new products

• Assist with PPAP, validation, and customer qualification activities

Root Cause Investigation & Continuous Improvement

• Partner with Engineering and Production to investigate dimensional nonconformances

• Support corrective and preventive action activities

• Identify opportunities to improve measurement accuracy, efficiency, and reliability

• Stay current on advancements in metrology technology and best practices

Quality System Support

• Follow ISO 9001, customer-specific requirements, and internal quality procedures

• Ensure measurement records and inspection documentation are complete and accurate

• Support customer audits, internal audits, and quality system assessments

• Maintain calibration awareness and support calibration program effectiveness

IV. Performance Criteria

• Measurement data is consistently accurate, repeatable, and trusted by Engineering, Production, and Customers

• CMM programs are developed and maintained according to established standards

• Measurement methodologies accurately represent engineering intent and GD&T requirements

• Gage R&R studies consistently demonstrate acceptable measurement system performance

• Capability studies are completed accurately and on schedule

• Dimensional issues are investigated promptly and root causes are documented

• Inspection methods support both quality requirements and operational efficiency

• New product launches are supported with robust and validated measurement systems

• Quality Technicians and Inspectors demonstrate competency through training and mentorship provided

V. Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of metrology experience with at least 3 years of advanced CMM programming responsibility

• Demonstrated experience creating CMM programs from CAD models and engineering drawings

• Minimum 3 years experience utilizing PolyWorks or equivalent advanced metrology software

• Proven experience conducting Gage R&R studies, Measurement System Analysis, and capability studies

• Strong experience interpreting GD&T per ASME Y14.5 standards

• Experience supporting manufacturing environments such as injection molding, machining, aerospace, medical device, or defense industries preferred

• Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Quality Technology, or related field preferred

• U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status required for ITAR compliance

• Must be fluent in English reading and writing

• Must possess a valid driver's license

• Must be capable of lifting up to 55 pounds

• Must successfully pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
