Civil Engineering Intern | Hardin, MT

This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities.
IMEG is hiring a Civil Engineering Intern in Hardin, MT. Over 10-12 weeks, you will work closely with experienced engineers and consultants on engineering analysis, design, field inspections, writing reports, preparing permit applications, and site drainage and grading designs while learning the civil engineering trade.
In this role, you will support project documentation, coordination, and job site observations while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations within project budgets. You will contribute to work across survey, tribal, and public works markets, helping deliver resilient, environmentally responsible infrastructure.

What You'll Do
  • Assist with design portions of projects related to discipline systems according to code and IMEG standards

  • Assist with researching resources for commercially available equipment

  • Assist with client relations, project design notebooks, and documentation for permanent record files

  • Assist with coordinating design and schedule with other disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical and equipment suppliers

  • Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress

  • Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check

  • Assist with preparing and issuing addendum information

  • Conduct periodic job site observations and other services as required by the contract services agreement

Education
  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required

Required Skills/Abilities
  • May be required to assist with field duties such as surveying and materials testing

  • Strong interest in design consulting

  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CAD software and BIM

  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Preferred
  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds

  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull

  • Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises

  • Tribal infrastructure for Fort Peck, Red Lake, and Crow Tribe including road realignment and transit facilities

  • Water system improvements, roadway design, and wetland delineation for county and municipal clients

  • Recent work includes Fort Peck Milk River Road Realignment, Transportation; Crow Transit Building, Government; and Havre Water System Improvements, Water/Wastewater.
