Symetra has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer I to join the team working on our new Stop Loss platform.

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer I, you'll be joining the team to help build the next generation of our Stop Loss platform. This is a hands-on engineering role where you will develop production-ready software, working from established architectural direction in a fast-evolving environment. We're looking for a collaborative and coachable engineer who is open to feedback and can effectively leverage AI-assisted development tools to deliver high-quality solutions.

What you will do

  • Develop production-ready software for the next generation Stop Loss platform, taking ownership of key components and features
  • Implement solutions aligned with established architectural direction while adapting to evolving requirements
  • Collaborate with architects, senior engineers, and cross-functional partners to deliver high-quality solutions
  • Contribute to a greenfield environment by helping shape features and platform capabilities as they evolve
  • Apply engineering best practices to build reliable, scalable, and maintainable code
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve efficiency across coding, testing, debugging, and refactoring

Compensation

Salary Range: $106,400 - $177,300 base plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.

Who You Are:

  • High School Diploma is required, plus a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field
  • 6-9 years of cumulative experience in software engineering, building production-ready applications
  • Strong ability to implement scalable, high-quality solutions from established architectural direction
  • Experience collaborating with architects, senior engineers, and cross-functional teams
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, evolving (greenfield) environments
  • Solid understanding of engineering best practices for building reliable, maintainable systems
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools to support coding, testing, debugging, and refactoring
  • Highly coachable, curious, and proactive in asking thoughtful questions to learn and improve
