How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As an Engineer I, you will provide engineering support for various projects and supporting multiple business units. The incumbent is responsible for identifying and investigating product improvement ideas and performing necessary research, engineering, and design to bring finished projects to the marketplace. In this position, the incumbent will use established procedures and work under immediate supervision to perform assigned tasks. This position works on assignments under general supervision and direction, follows established procedures and has work reviewed by more senior level engineers. 

This role encourages innovation and continuously improves efficiency of technical support, monitors advances of technology and competition, and supports global and acquisition-related technical issues in areas of expertise.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. Technical Engineering Design and Support
  • Use engineering principles and product specifications to support technical questions from internal and external customers.
  • Identifying opportunities for product improvements and process improvements with drawings, engineering specifications, bill of materials, quality plans and plant procedures
  • Identifying opportunities for cost savings on products and manufacturing labor savings
  • Perform finite element analysis on new and existing products.
  • Perform structural analysis on options and products.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations associated with various products.
  • Use communicative skills to support products from a technical position to internal and external customers.
  • Collaborate closely with plant management to understand production goals, providing technical guidance and statistical data to assist with decision making.
  1. Design and Modelling
  • Use 3D modelling software to create product models.
  • Products fabrications drawings, BOMs, and assembly manuals from 3D models.
  • Work closely with manufacturing team and other internal customers to identify modelling practices beneficial to the success of the organization.
  • Work in ERP system to create new and manage existing model data.
  1.   Project Management: 
  • Coordinate and manage projects related to product and process improvement, from initial planning stages to successful completion.
  • Working in cross functional teams (production, quality, engineering, sourcing), ensure seamless integration of process improvements
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in manufacturing technology, proactively recommending relevant improvements.
  • Other projects as assigned that relate to the overall goals of the department and organization.

 

What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)

Required Experience & Skills

  • At least 1 year of experience working in 3D modeling software.
  • Understanding of ERP system, BOM creation and document management.,
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and effectively implement changes.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-function teams at all levels (production to management) and present data and recommendations verbally and in written form to management.
  • Familiarity with project management principles and the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in software tools such as CAD
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications, including the ability to develop summary graphs, tables, pivot tables, and other reports.

 

Ideal Experience & Skills

  • Experience with design for manufacturing methods
  • Experience with SAP ERP Systems
  • Experience in AutoCAD Mechanical
  • Experience in Solid Edge
  • Experience working with teams in different physical locations.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a Stuctural Emphasis (MSCE preferred)

 

Travel & Working Environment

  • Onsite office environment, Monday - Friday; Hybrid work schedule available after satisfactory completion of probationary period.
  • Office and Manufacturing plant environment
  • The position may require working occasionally outside normal work hours. 
  • Lifting 10-30 pounds.
  • Keyboarding/typing.
  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy.
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiples tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally.
