We're looking for an experienced Staff Software Engineer (Backend) to join the Earner Experience team and play a key role in delivering critical features that directly impact Uber's 10 Million+ Earners. We are building platforms and products for the Earners that help them progress in their journey and help make them thrive and earn their maximum in the platform. • Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver seamless user experiences.
  • Mentor and guide engineers across the team, promoting best practices in coding, design, and architecture.
  • Contribute to the evolution of our backend architecture and technical strategy.
  • Drive performance, reliability, and security across our backend systems.
  • Conduct teechnical reviews, provide thoughtful feedback, and help raise the bar for engineering quality.

Basic Qualifications
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on backend systems.
  • Proven experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems.
  • Strong AI expertise with hands-on experience building and deploying AI-powered applications using LLMs and AI-assisted software development practices.
  • Expertise in one or more backend languages (e.g., Go, Java, Python, Ruby, Node.js).
  • Deep understanding of API design, database technologies (SQL and NoSQL), and cloud infrastructure.
  • Track record of technical leadership and delivering high-impact features that serve real customer needs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) with a focus on distributed computing, system performance, or machine learning.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux internals, container orchestration, or modern security architectural patterns.
  • Experience contributing to open-source projects or leading industry-level technical discussions.
  • Ability to anticipate future business needs and develop extensible, modular designs that meet long-term scalability targets.
