Job description

Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators.

At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there.

A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.

As a Frontend Engineer on the Co-Experience team, you will work on high-visibility initiatives that define the future of age-appropriate communication. Using modern technologies, you will build and maintain a social ecosystem that ensures safe, civil, and meaningful interactions across diverse age groups.

We are kind, highly collaborative, and draw on a mix of startup and large company backgrounds to iterate faster within Roblox.

Our primary product is a platform-level Party System. As the heartbeat of social interaction on Roblox, this system enables users to coordinate, form groups, and stay connected as they navigate across servers and immersive experiences.

While we have a strong foundation of chat, voice, gameplay mechanics, and creator APIs, we need your expertise to build out new features and build client side developer APIs as we accelerate our path toward product‑market fit. As we scale, your work will directly impact our global community and support the company’s top‑line growth.

You will:
  • Collaborate within a multi‑functional team that includes product, design, UXR, frontend and backend engineering.
  • Own projects end to end, from design and architecture to launch and iteration, driving measurable impact that drives us towards product market fit and growing usage. With a drive to ship and proactively get yourself unblocked.
  • Participate in designing empowering Roblox creators to unlock new ways to co‑experience for their users.
  • Partner with other engineering teams (connections, voice, discovery,) to integrate multiple systems in a reusable, performant and safe manner.
  • Identify gaps in performance, testing, and experimentation workflows, and lead improvements that make the team more effective and efficient.
  • Uphold high standards of technical quality and user experience while rapidly iterating on new features.
  • Contribute to a strong, inclusive team culture by helping refine processes, mentoring peers, and supporting each other’s success.
You Have
  • An undergraduate/graduate degree in computer science, engineering or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience as a frontend or client apps engineer working on complex user interfaces in close collaboration with product and design partners.
  • Experience working on large‑scale consumer applications in React/Redux, React Native, iOS, Android, Windows, Mac OS and other platforms.
  • Knowledge of testing methodologies, including tools like Jest, React Testing Library or other comparable technologies.
  • An appreciation for UX and UI - though not a design, you have a good intuition on what delightful user experiences look like, and can help contribute to design planning.
You Are:
  • Versatile: You’re a generalist, open to learning new languages and technologies, and can easily adapt to changing situations.
  • Creative: You take a creative and strategic approach to solving difficult problems. You actively research and leverage recent developments in the AI field to enhance productivity for yourself and your team.
  • Team‑oriented: You collaborate effectively and enjoy sharing your knowledge and expertise with others.
  • Responsible: You are thorough in your designs, meticulous in handling potential failure cases, and diligent in automated testing. You build systems that are stable and reliable.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job‑related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full‑time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

Annual Salary Range

$196,750 — $243,290 USD

Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
