The Principal Software Engineer is a senior hands-on technical leader responsible for designing and delivering scalable enterprise software solutions. This role drives modern application architecture, cloud-native development, enterprise integrations, RFID-enabled solutions, and data platforms while improving system performance, reliability, security, and engineering efficiency. The role also champions the responsible adoption of AI-assisted and Agentic Development Lifecycle (ADLC) practices to enhance software quality, maintainability, developer productivity, and delivery outcomes.

Areas of Accountability

This role is accountable for delivering technical outcomes as a senior individual contributor. The Principal Software Engineer influences architecture, engineering standards, and modern development practices while remaining hands-on in solution design, development, delivery, and production support.

Enterprise Software Solution Delivery
  • Designs and delivers scalable enterprise software solutions that meet business, security, reliability, performance, and maintainability requirements.
  • Leads hands-on development for complex capabilities, critical enhancements, integrations, and production issues.
  • Applies AI-assisted and Agentic Development Lifecycle practices to improve requirements clarity, solution design, code quality, test coverage, documentation, and production readiness.
  • Translates business needs into resilient application designs, implementation plans, and production-ready software.
Application Architecture and Engineering Standards
  • Designs and influences application architecture for secure, maintainable, and scalable enterprise platforms.
  • Applies modern architecture patterns and engineering standards to improve quality, consistency, and long-term supportability.
  • Partners with engineering leadership, DevOps, infrastructure, security, and business stakeholders to align solutions with enterprise expectations.
Software Engineering and .NET Development
  • Develops high-quality software using C#, .NET, APIs, object-oriented programming, secure coding standards, and modern engineering practices.
  • Leads code design, code review, refactoring, troubleshooting, and implementation of complex application capabilities.
  • Applies AI-assisted development practices to support coding, unit test generation, defect analysis, documentation, and code modernization while validating all generated outputs before release.
Cloud-Native and Integration Delivery
  • Delivers cloud-native application capabilities and secure integration solutions across internal systems and third-party platforms.
  • Influences API design, integration patterns, event-driven solutions, and data exchange practices to support reliable business operations.
  • Works with platform, security, infrastructure, and DevOps partners to ensure solutions align with reliability, automation, monitoring, and security practices.
Technical Leadership and Mentorship
  • Provides hands-on technical leadership, design guidance, code review, and mentoring to software engineers across assigned initiatives.
  • Helps teams evaluate tradeoffs, resolve complex technical challenges, and deliver solutions with appropriate quality controls.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve developer productivity, software quality, system performance, delivery efficiency, and production support effectiveness.
  • Coach teams on responsible AI-assisted development, including prompt quality, review discipline, secure handling of information, validation of generated outputs, and appropriate use of approved tools.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
  • Identifies opportunities to improve developer productivity, software quality, system performance, and delivery efficiency.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors or masters degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of hands-on software development experience, including delivery of enterprise-scale software solutions.
  • Previous experience as a Principal Engineer or Staff Engineer is highly desirable.
  • Strong experience designing and delivering solutions using C#, .NET, APIs, object-oriented programming, secure coding practices, and modern application architecture patterns.
  • Experience with microservices, distributed systems, REST APIs, asynchronous processing, messaging, integration patterns, and secure application design.
  • Experience delivering cloud-native applications, preferably using AWS services, containers, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, automated testing, deployment automation, observability, and operational support practices.
  • Ability to apply responsible AI-assisted and Agentic Development Lifecycle practices across architecture, .NET coding, database development, report development, testing, documentation, deployment, and support.
  • Experience integrating ERP, CRM, manufacturing systems, IoT devices, and cloud services.
  • Designs secure APIs with OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT, and modern authentication mechanisms.
  • Strong knowledge of Kafka, messaging systems, event streaming, API gateways, and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Experience in Boomi is preferred.
  • Experience designing and delivering RFID, IoT, and supply chain technology solutions for manufacturing, warehouse, logistics, and asset-tracking operations.
  • Knowledge of enterprise RFID architectures, industry standards, and real-time event processing.
  • Knowledge of EPC Gen2, RAIN RFID, serialization, commissioning, RFID middleware, and real-time event processing.
  • Experience integrating RFID readers, handheld devices, barcode scanners, industrial printers, sensors, and automation equipment.
  • Extensive experience designing and optimizing high-volume transactional systems, enterprise data platforms, and reporting solutions with a focus on performance, scalability, security, and reliability.
  • Expertise in data architecture, data modeling, query optimization, indexing, partitioning, replication, and high-availability solutions across SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, and DynamoDB.
  • Applies AI-assisted and Agentic Development Lifecycle (ADLC) practices to database design, data integration, query optimization, reporting, data quality validation, and documentation.
  • Experience delivering enterprise analytics and reporting solutions using Power BI, Amazon Quick Suite (formerly QuickSight), real-time analytics, and large-scale data processing platforms.
  • Minimal travel, as business needs require.
