Position Overview:

The Boating Intelligence (BI) Design Lab is seeking a talented Software Engineering Intern. This role will involve software development across the full-stack: backend, web/mobile apps, databases, and cloud deployments.
This is an ideal opportunityfor those who are enthusiastic about tackling innovative customer problems using technology and have a natural curiosity,a passion for experimentation, learning, and continuous improvement. You will gain hands-on experience at the intersection of Software Engineering, and the recreational boating industry, contributing to impactful projects in a dynamic R&D environment.

Essential Functions:

Due to the nature of the Lab, it is difficult to capture all the responsibilities and projects accurately. The following list is not exhaustive but alludes to the kinds of workflow that will be expected.

  • Quickly understand problem statements and formulate a variety ofpossible solutions

  • Work with the teams that develop and deploy software solutions

  • Write andmaintaincode specific to active projects

  • Collaborate across multiple teams to plan, build, and test complex functionality

  • Be adaptable

Diversity of thought and experiences is fundamental when imagining the unimaginable. Certain skillsets/experiences are necessary; however, others can be developed along the way.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in a BS in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Engineering, and Physics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Or equivalent software development experience.

  • Experience in general software development and tooling such as git.

  • Work or side projects related to software engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with developing full-stack applications.

  • Experience with Python, Rust, or preferably TypeScript.

  • Experience with cloud deployment (particularly Azure or preferably Cloudflare)

  • Experience with databases

  • Excitement to learn cutting edge tools.

  • Hours: Co-ops and Interns are expected to work a full 40-hour work week

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $27.00 per hour. The actual hourly rate offered will vary depending on multiple factors including year in school/credits earned, degree, job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location.
