Labcorp is seeking a Lead Software Development Engineer to join our team in Durham, NC. The individual will play a key role in designing, developing, and supporting missioncritical laboratory systems that enable complex clinical and operational workflows. This position combines deep technical expertise with leadership responsibilities to deliver highperformance LIMS applications using modern technologies and cloud platforms. The role partners closely with crossfunctional teams to drive innovation, improve system scalability, and support Labcorp's ongoing digital transformation initiatives.

Work Schedule: This is a full time, exempt (salaried) position. Standard business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST. Business needs may occasionally require additional hours, including afterhours support, based on project demands and production needs.

Work Location: Durham, NC

Applicants who live within 35 miles of the Durham, NC location will follow a hybrid schedule. This schedule includes a minimum of three in-office days per week in Durham, supporting both collaboration and flexibility.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and document technical and functional specifications using tools such as flowcharts, ER diagrams, and pseudocode.

  • Develop, test, and integrate highquality software using modern engineering standards and automated tools.

  • Review and refactor existing code to improve performance, scalability, and maintainability.

  • Analyze and enhance existing applications to meet evolving business requirements.

  • Support migration efforts from legacy systems to modern platforms.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for internally developed Virtual LIMS (Lab Information Management System).

  • Support production environments, including Tier3 troubleshooting and occasional afterhours support including on-call support.

  • Adhere to enterprise development standards and best practices.

  • Learn and apply knowledge of laboratory operations and clinical workflows to support system design and functionality.

  • Contribute as both an individual contributor and technical SME, providing guidance to junior engineers as needed.

  • Able to coordinate with vendors, cross functional teams to deliver results in a timely manner.

  • Provide support to configure and maintain third-party software and the integration with internal systems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 7 or more years' experience with .NET technologies, including .NET Core, ASP.net, MVC, WCF, Entity Framework or similar ORM tools

  • 7 or more years' experience in database design and query writing, using SQL Server or similar RDBMS systems.

  • 7 or more years' experience in API development and microservices architecture, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud-native apps.

  • 7 or more years' experience in distributed application design and development, using Kafka/MQ/RabbitMQ or similar technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree

  • 2 or more years' experience with healthcare interoperability standards, such as HL7 and FHIR

  • Current or prior Labcorp experience

Additional Job Standards

  • Ability to support Tier3 production issues, including occasional offhours support.

  • Hands-on experience with version control and CI/CD tools such as Git, Jenkins, or Bamboo.

  • Prior experience working in an Agile development environment and able adapt to fast-paced delivery.

  • Able to provide support beyond regular business hours.

  • Understanding of clinical laboratory operations or healthcare IT environments.

  • Experience with reporting tools such as SSRS.

  • Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Confluence and Jira.

  • Experience with cloud or hybrid platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.

  • Experience with testdriven development and continuous integration pipelines.

  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills with the ability to quickly learn complex systems.

  • Selfmotivated with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and nontechnical teams.
