Job Description:
Microchip Technology Inc. has an opening for an Engineer II-Software Development position in Houston, Texas. In this role, the candidate will work as a full stack developer to enhance and maintain a custom, in-house test automation framework used by internal teams for validating Microchip storage products in a fast-paced, non-stop, automated test environment. The candidate will also assist in maintaining existing infrastructure servers and network hardware and will contribute to the team's growing AI/ML initiatives by integrating intelligent tooling and observability capabilities into the test infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop frameworks and tools using PHP, Java, SQL, SvelteKit, TypeScript, and bash/shell scripting
  • Design, develop, and maintain relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite) to enhance the capabilities of automated testing teams
  • Work as part of a team to develop, execute, maintain, and document test infrastructure solutions and processes
  • Work with multiple internal QA test teams to support and provide continuous improvement of the automated test environment
  • Maintain servers and other hardware and software components that provide the infrastructure used by the automated QA test environment
  • Implement and maintain observability solutions including distributed tracing, metrics collection, log aggregation, and dashboards to improve system visibility and reliability
  • Support AI/ML integration efforts by contributing to tooling, pipelines, and infrastructure that enable intelligent automation within the QA organization
  • Work within a team to track and provide estimates for tasks by utilizing and following the Agile development methodology
  • Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs following Swagger/OpenAPI specifications to support test automation and infrastructure tooling
  • Drive innovation and integration of new technologies into projects and activities for Microchip's quality assurance organization

Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering plus 2.5 years of relevant industry experience
  • 4+ years of proven software development and programming experience in web development languages (HTML, CSS, JSON, jQuery, SQL, PHP, Java, TypeScript, NodeJS, and Docker)
  • Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs, including documentation using Swagger/OpenAPI specifications
  • Experience with relational databases including MySQL, PostgreSQL, and/or SQLite
  • Familiarity with UI/UX design principles and the ability to create intuitive, user-friendly interfaces for internal tooling and dashboards
  • Experience with cloud platforms, specifically AWS and/or Azure, including core services such as compute, storage, and networking
  • Good understanding of object-oriented design and programming best practices
  • Experience installing and maintaining Linux operating systems
  • Strong design, analysis, and debug skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiar with NFS and Git configuration and administration
  • Experience with Atlassian tools: Jira for project tracking and Bitbucket for source control and code review workflows
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, particularly Jenkins, for build automation and test orchestration
  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools: OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Prometheus, and Sentry
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes for container orchestration and workload management
  • Experience with log aggregation and visualization (ELK/EFK stack or equivalent)
  • Experience with Python for scripting and automation tooling
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and the ability to support AI integration within the QA organization
  • Experience with integrating web-based cloud data and storage solutions (AWS, Azure)
