As a Software Development Engineer Intern, you will often contribute to real-world projects that may range from feature development and bug fixes to prototyping new tools or improving existing systems. Interns are usually paired with a mentor and integrated into agile teams, where they are encouraged to take ownership of their assigned tasks and present their solutions. While guidance and code reviews are standard, interns are trusted to design, implement, and test their code, allowing for meaningful hands-on experience and a direct impact on product outcomes.

Job Description

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

Join RBC's technology team at the forefront of enterprise engineering and agentic AI innovation. You'll take on a genuine technical leadership role, shaping architectural decisions, and building intelligent automation solutions that directly accelerate delivery and business outcomes. This is a rare opportunity to influence engineering culture at scale: driving CI/CD excellence, championing modern DevOps practices, and integrating cutting-edge LLM-based tools into real workflows. If you're energized by solving complex problems across the full stack, mentoring talented developers, and working where AI meets enterprise-grade engineering, this team is where that work is happening.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Lead 1-2 engineers initially, as technical team lead, providing code reviews, architectural direction, and hands-on delivery of full stack applications using modern technologies
  • Design and build agentic AI workflows and LLM-integrated automation solutions that augment developer productivity and streamline business processes
  • Architect and implement automated test suites (unit, integration, end-to-end) using frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, and PyTest to ensure software quality at scale
  • Design, champion, and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows, promoting DevOps best practices across engineering teams
  • Build and optimize containerized microservices using Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, and cloud-native architectures on AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Mentor junior and intermediate developers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and engineering standards adherence
  • Collaborate with product management, QA, and infrastructure teams to align engineering efforts with business objectives and regulatory requirements
  • Evaluate emerging technologies - particularly in the AI/ML and agentic automation space - and recommend adoption strategies to enhance platform capabilities

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Must have:

  • 7+ years of progressive full stack software development and/or automation engineering experience, with 2+ years in a technical lead or team lead capacity
  • Strong proficiency in Python or Java with demonstrated ability to architect complex, enterprise-grade systems
  • Hands-on experience with agentic AI development, LLM integration, and prompt engineering - including tools such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or the OpenAI API
  • Experience building RAG pipelines, autonomous agents, or AI-assisted developer workflows integrated into production engineering environments
  • Deep experience with containerized applications, Kubernetes, and CI/CD platforms (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI), including DevOps tooling such as Docker, Helm, and Terraform
  • Proven ability to design and deliver automated testing frameworks and workflow orchestration solutions (e.g., Airflow, Selenium, Playwright, PyTest)

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures or messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
  • Experience in financial services or a regulated industry, with exposure to security best practices and compliance requirements
  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog, Splunk, or Grafana, and experience contributing to Agile/Scrum ceremonies and technical roadmaps

What's in it for you?

We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper. We care about each other, reaching our potential, making a difference to our communities, and achieving success that is mutual.

  • A comprehensive Total Rewards Program including bonuses and flexible benefits, competitive compensation, commissions, and stock where applicable
  • Leaders who support your development through coaching and managing opportunities
  • Ability to make a difference and lasting impact in technology transformation
  • Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team
  • A world-class training program in financial services and technology
  • Flexible work/life balance options
