What We're Looking For

The Software Engineer, II designs, develops, analyzes, and maintains software solutions for the organizationโ€™s products and systems. Performs system integration of software and hardware to ensure throughput, consistency, and compliance with quality standards. Develops, validates, and tests software functionality and associated documentation. Work is reviewed for overall adequacy, but allows for greater independence in day-to-day responsibilities. Follows established processes and contributes to improving existing methodologies.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and test AI and automation solutions tailored specifically for the Program Management Office (PMO) to optimize operational efficiency and eliminate repetitive, transaction-based activities.
  • Implement and maintain automated workflows within the Planisware platform to streamline project portfolio management, reduce manual data entry, and enhance real-time reporting capabilities.
  • Develop and deploy intelligent automation tools for Zebra Life Cycle Management (ZLM), specifically targeting and optimizing both ZLM Hardware (HW) and ZLM Solutions processes to improve accuracy and reduce administrative overhead.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional PMO stakeholders to support the analysis of New Product Development (NPD) lifecycles and help identify bottlenecks where custom AI-driven or automated solutions can accelerate execution.
  • Assist in evaluating existing PMO workflows to identify automation opportunities, applying technologies such as scripting, robotic process automation (RPA), or machine learning algorithms to replace manual tasks.
  • Contribute to the development lifecycle of internal PMO automation tools, participating in requirements gathering, proof-of-concept creation, deployment, ongoing maintenance, and performance monitoring.
  • Work closely with project teams to ensure that deployed AI and automation solutions align with strategic business objectives and maintain compliance with internal quality and ISO standards.
  • Designs, develops, and tests software components as part of a larger project, ensuring alignment with project objectives and timelines
  • Creates and maintains documentation detailing specific software functionality and design specifications
  • Participates in code reviews and provides constructive feedback
  • Contributes to the development and testing of software solutions for various products. Analyzes results and conducts root cause analysis to diagnose and resolve issues
  • Recommends and implements solutions to complex technical challenges, ensuring compliance with quality processes and standards
  • Modifies and enhances existing software by improving functionality, scalability, and performance to meet evolving business needs
  • Proactively seeks out opportunities to enhance performance and productivity by recommending new tools or methodologies
  • Demonstrates sound judgment to determine appropriate actions for software development and testing tasks
  • Assist less experienced staff with existing practices and processes
  • Builds productive working relationships within the team, across organizational units, and with external customers
  • Occasionally interacts with inter-organizational and external stakeholders to address project related needs or resolve issues
This position requires hybrid work (3 days/week in office) in the Holtsville, NY office. This position is expected to start in Summer 2027 Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. Advanced Degree in a relevant field is also acceptable.
  • 2+ years of relevant software engineering experience with a Bachelors Degree. 0+ years of experience with an Advanced Degree.
  • Equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with programming languages, operating systems, algorithms and software development frameworks
  • Strong understanding of software development life cycles (SDLC), including Agile or Scrum methodologies
  • Experience with debugging, testing, and troubleshooting software systems
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems using innovative and efficient solutions
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git, GitHub) and CI/CD pipelines
  • Excellent teamwork, collaboration, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrates proactiveness in identifying opportunities for improvement and works on the solution
  • Ability to work independently while seeking guidance when necessary

Pay Range

$86,080.00 - $129,120.00 Annual

Incentive Compensation

In addition to base pay, Zebra offers this role the opportunity to earn a performance-based annual cash incentive, at a target equal to 10% of base pay, in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
