Job description

Title: Cleared Embedded Software Engineer - Real-Time Defense Systems

We are hiring an onsite Embedded Software Engineer to support advanced real-time defense systems in Middletown, RI. This role is focused on embedded C/C++ software development, real-time operating systems, hardware/software integration, and high-performance software used in complex deployed environments.

This is a strong fit for a software engineer who enjoys working close to hardware and is comfortable with multi-threaded embedded platforms, Linux, VxWorks or other RTOS environments, sensors, control interfaces, middleware, and performance-focused development. The ideal candidate has worked in aerospace, defense, Navy, undersea, autonomous systems, sensors, controls, or another mission-critical embedded environment.

Location: Middletown, RI

Schedule: 1st shift, onsite

Contract Type: Renewable one-year contract with potential to extend multiple years or convert to permanent

Contract Classification: Non-exempt contract

Clearance: Active Secret clearance required at start

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, debug, integrate, and maintain embedded real-time software.
  • Develop software in C/C++ for Linux, VxWorks, or other RTOS-based platforms.
  • Integrate software with custom hardware, firmware, sensors, control interfaces, and embedded processing systems.
  • Support multi-threaded embedded software development across heterogeneous processor environments.
  • Implement middleware, control logic, detection/tracking support software, and performance-sensitive software components.
  • Collaborate with systems, hardware, firmware, and test engineers to integrate software into larger systems.
  • Support smoke testing, integration testing, hardware/software acceptance testing, and real-world system preparation.
  • Participate in design reviews and mentor less-experienced engineers when appropriate.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Active Secret clearance required at start.
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 5+ years of relevant experience, or advanced STEM degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong C/C++ software development experience.
  • Embedded real-time software experience.
  • Linux, VxWorks, Green Hills, Integrity, or other RTOS experience.
  • Experience integrating software with hardware, firmware, sensors, controls, or custom embedded platforms.
  • Experience in defense, aerospace, Navy, undersea, autonomous systems, radar, sensors, controls, or other mission-critical embedded environments.
  • Ability to work onsite full time in Middletown, RI.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as needed.
