Job description

Title: GNC QA Engineer I

Location : Cache County, UT (hybrid, onsite 3x/wk)

Target Start Date : ASAP

Type: Contract

Pay Rate : $28.00-$35.30/hr


Job Summary

Our client, a global leader in advanced autonomous and robotic solutions across multiple industries, is seeking a Software QA Engineer to work with their Guidance, Navigation & Controls team. The GNC QA Engineer I supports the quality and validation of guidance, navigation, and control software and autonomous system capabilities through structured testing, defect identification, and clear documentation. Working in an Agile/Scrum environment, this role executes test plans, validates software functionality and performance, and helps ensure reliable operation across lab, vehicle, and field environments. Exposure to GNC engineering concepts and autonomous vehicle or robotic systems is desired to support testing of software related to vehicle motion, navigation, localization, and control.


Key Responsibilities

  • Execute manual test cases against defined requirements and acceptance criteria to validate software functionality, performance, and reliability.
  • Assist with the development and execution of test plans and test strategies based on project requirements and specifications.
  • Document test results, defects, and observations using test and defect management tools.
  • Reproduce, troubleshoot, and communicate software defects and testing findings to engineering teams.
  • Conduct testing across lab, vehicle, and field environments, including user-acceptance testing as software approaches release readiness.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum activities and provide accurate testing and quality status updates.
  • Identify recurring defects and testing trends to support continuous quality improvement.
  • Follow established test procedures and support software installation, diagnostics, and basic Linux-based testing activities.


Qualifications

  • 0โ€“2 years of experience in software quality assurance, software testing, or a related technical field.
  • Coursework or education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Foundational understanding of software testing methodologies and the software development lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with test case and defect management tools such as Jira or TestRail.
  • Ability to follow established test procedures and document test results accurately.
  • Basic troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to reproduce and communicate software defects.
  • Willingness to learn Linux operating system fundamentals and software installation and diagnostic processes.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and teamwork skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) concepts or software used in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or other autonomous systems.
  • Familiarity with autonomous system capabilities such as vehicle control, navigation, localization, path planning, or motion planning.
  • Exposure to testing in vehicle, robotics, simulation, or field-based environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum software development practices.
  • Basic experience with Linux, command-line tools, or software diagnostics.
