They are expected to quickly understand project requirements, deliver code efficiently, and collaborate with both in-house teams and other contractors, maintaining flexibility to adapt to different workflows and tools. A successful Software Developer Contract requires strong programming abilities, solid knowledge of software development methodologies, and relevant project or domain expertise, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Excellent problem-solving skills, adaptability, effective communication, and an ability to quickly integrate into new teams are crucial soft skills. These competencies enable contract developers to deliver high-quality solutions while efficiently navigating diverse projects and rapidly changing work environments.

What is a software developer contract?

A Software Developer Contract job is a temporary or project-based position where a developer is hired for a specific duration, typically through a contract agreement. Contractors may work independently, for an agency, or directly with a company to develop, test, and maintain software applications. These roles often offer flexibility but may not include benefits like health insurance or paid time off. Contract developers are usually paid hourly or per project and may work remotely or on-site depending on the employer's needs.

  • Evaluate market trends, competitive offerings, and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for innovation and growth.
  • Support long-term platform modernization and expansion initiatives.

  • Translate customer and business needs into clear product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and release plans.
  • Participate in backlog refinement, sprint planning, and ongoing product delivery activities.
  • Ensure development efforts remain aligned with product strategy and desired outcomes.
  • Remove obstacles, facilitate decision-making, and drive alignment across stakeholders.

Customer & Market Discovery

  • Develop a deep understanding of customer workflows, pain points, and business objectives.
  • Analyze product usage data and customer feedback to identify trends and prioritize improvements.
  • Partner with customer-facing teams to gather and synthesize market insights.

Commercial & Go-to-Market Leadership
  • Support product launches, feature rollouts, and market expansion initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success teams on positioning, messaging, enablement, and customer adoption strategies.
  • Participate in customer demonstrations, prospect conversations, industry events, and strategic account discussions.

AI-Enabled Product Management
  • Leverage AI tools to improve product management workflows, research, documentation, and decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to incorporate AI capabilities into customer experiences and internal processes.
  • Stay current on emerging AI technologies and evaluate their potential impact on product strategy and customer value.

Experience & Skills
Required
  • 5+ years of Product Management experience within a SaaS or software environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing product roadmaps and prioritizing competing initiatives.
  • Strong customer discovery and research skills, including customer interviews and solution validation.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Design, QA, Sales, and Customer Success.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Experience translating business objectives into actionable product requirements and deliverables.

Preferred
