Job description

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking a Java Software Engineer (Remote).
Summary:
We are seeking a Java Software Engineer with strong Java development experience to support application modernization, vulnerability remediation, API security, and overall application hardening. This role is approximately 60% backend development and 40% frontend development, working on customer-facing applications where code quality, security, and stability are critical. The ideal candidate is a strong backend Java developer who is also comfortable working within existing web applications and making modifications to JavaScript/UI code as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise applications using Java and Spring technologies
* Support application vulnerability remediation, security hardening, and dependency/package updates
* Design, develop, and integrate REST APIs and microservices
* Troubleshoot and modify existing web applications across both backend and frontend layers
* Read, understand, and make targeted modifications to JavaScript/AJAX code without requiring extensive UI rewrites
* Work with existing applications built using Thymeleaf, Spring Web MVC, and Backbone
* Collaborate with developers through code reviews, technical discussions, and Agile/Scrum ceremonies
* Work with containerized applications deployed in OpenShift/Kubernetes and Docker environments
* Maintain high standards for code quality, security, performance, and reliability
REQUIREMENTS:
* Strong Core Java development experience, preferably with Java 17 or Java 21
* Hands-on experience with Spring Boot
* Experience with Spring Web MVC
* Strong experience developing and consuming REST APIs
* Frontend/web development experience including: JavaScript; AJAX; Thymeleaf; Backbone.js
* Solid understanding of microservices architecture
* Understanding of web applications, HTTP, and web security concepts
* Understanding of containerization, including Docker and Kubernetes
* Ability to read, troubleshoot, and make modifications to existing JavaScript/UI code
* Ability to work effectively in a collaborative Agile development environment
Preferred:
* Experience with Harness
* Experience with OpenShift
* Experience with Postman
* Experience using GitHub Copilot or another AI-powered coding assistant
* Banking, financial services, or other regulated-industry experience
* Experience with Single Sign-On (SSO) and/or Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
* Experience with Node.js
* Experience with React or modern UI migration initiatives
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
