Job Description

We are seeking a Software Developer in Test II (SDET) who shares an AI-First mindset to champion quality and reliability across our systems. In this role, you will leverage your expertise to design and build scalable automated test frameworks and seamlessly integrate them into modern CI/CD pipelines. Beyond just writing test scripts, you will partner directly with engineering leadership to ensure applications are built with testability, observability, and high performance in mind from day one. This position is based in Vancouver, BC, and the candidate must reside in the Greater Vancouver area, as you will be required to go into the office on a hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities include:
  • Test Automation & Framework Design: With developers as customers, design systems to be used and extended by the whole team. Apply software design patterns to test such as mocks, simulators, stubs to reduce dependency on other teams. Integrate with TCMS to ensure we have a single source of truth for quality.

  • Shift-Left Quality & Testability: Partner directly with software engineers and product managers throughout the entire development process including design and architecture phases. Review system designs to define clear acceptance criteria and ensure applications are built with testability and observability in mind from day one. Help teams build appliance scale setups and help execute tests when required.

  • AI-Enhanced Quality Engineering: Leverage an AI-first mindset to accelerate test development. Utilize AI coding assistants and intelligent tools for test data generation, predictive failure analysis, and identifying edge cases. Actively explore modern solutions like spec driven development to ensure behavior is consistent during ai assisted refactoring.

  • CI/CD Integration & Systems Testing: Integrate automated test suites seamlessly into modern CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) to establish reliable, automated quality gates. Write and execute load, performance, and API stress tests to understand system limits. Utilize observability telemetry (logs, metrics, tracing) to isolate bottlenecks in lower environments. Ensure NFR's, security, localization and performances are gated.

  • Hands-On Engineering & Code Quality: Write clean, efficient, and maintainable production-grade code. Actively participate in code reviews for both the test framework and the core application, holding the team to high standards for coding practices.

  • Quality Culture & Collaborative Partnership: Act as a champion for quality within your immediate Agile team, influencing developers to adopt a "quality-first" mindset. Participate or lead in learning sessions such as RCAs, bug hunts, and story. Hold the quality bar on development including reviewing and approving test strategies.

  • Communication & Mentorship: Provide honest, data-driven visibility into test coverage, open defects, customer feedback, and release readiness. Provide actionable, respectful feedback during code reviews. Mentor the development team on different testing types and approaches.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field

  • 3-5 years of experience as an SDET or QA Automation Engineer

  • Proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, TypeScript, C#, or C++)

  • Experience building automated testing frameworks from the ground up

  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Practical experience using an AI-first approach to software development and testing workflows

  • Experience with load, performance, and API stress testing tools

  • Experience testing large-scale public-facing applications or distributed systems that are mission critical for customers

  • Experience with test management tools such as TestRail

  • Familiarity with leveraging observability platforms to debug complex system failures

  • Experience developing test suites for applications in Cloud environments using virtualization tools such as docker
