Job description

Job Summary
Student research assistants will be working with the Cracks in the Pavement grant from the Mellon Foundation. Specifically, students will be assigned to a specific class being run by a Mellon-associated faculty member that contains a module on democracy within that specific discipline. Research assistants will attend the class to which they are assigned, participate in research meetings and workshops, and aide the faculty member and their class with their final project in the course.

This is a one-semester appointment for the Fall 2026 semester. Training will begin in August 2026.
Responsibilities*
Students will be required to:
  • Attend the class to which they are assigned
  • Attend regular research assistant cohort meetings
  • Attend workshops on humanities/social science research methods and community engagement
  • Help the assigned faculty member and class with their final project.

Required Qualifications*
  • Must be an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan-Flint
  • Interested in humanistic and social science research.

Modes of Work
Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes .
Work Schedule
Mostly during the day with the potential for evening meetings with community partners based on faculty need.
