Soc Automation Engineer information

What is a SoC automation engineer?

SoC Automation Engineers are professionals who specialize in developing, maintaining, and optimizing automated workflows for the design, verification, and testing of System-on-Chip (SoC) hardware. They create scripts, tools, and infrastructure to streamline processes such as build automation, regression testing, and continuous integration in semiconductor and chip design environments. Their work ensures that SoC development is efficient, reliable, and scalable, reducing manual intervention and minimizing errors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a SoC automation engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a SoC Automation Engineer, you need a solid foundation in digital design, scripting/programming (such as Python, Perl, or TCL), and a relevant degree in electrical engineering or computer science. Familiarity with EDA tools (like Synopsys or Cadence), continuous integration systems, and automation frameworks is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help engineers collaborate and address design challenges efficiently. These skills and qualities are crucial for automating complex SoC design flows, improving productivity, and ensuring high-quality silicon delivery.

What are some common challenges faced by SoC automation engineers during silicon validation and how can they be addressed?

SoC Automation Engineers often encounter challenges such as integrating diverse validation tools, managing large-scale test data, and ensuring that automation scripts are robust across changing hardware revisions. To address these issues, engineers typically collaborate closely with design and verification teams to understand evolving requirements, utilize version control systems for their scripts, and implement continuous integration pipelines to catch issues early. Leveraging modular scripting practices and thorough documentation also helps maintain test coverage and adaptability throughout the silicon validation process.

What is the difference between Soc Automation Engineer vs Security Analyst?

AspectSoc Automation EngineerSecurity Analyst
CredentialsCertifications like CISSP, CISA, or vendor-specific automation toolsCertifications like CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or GIAC certifications
Work EnvironmentFocus on developing and maintaining security automation tools within security operations centersMonitoring, analyzing, and responding to security incidents and threats
Employer & IndustryTypically employed by large enterprises, security service providers, or cybersecurity firmsCommonly employed across various industries including finance, healthcare, and government

While both roles are vital in cybersecurity, Soc Automation Engineers focus on automating security processes to improve efficiency, whereas Security Analysts primarily analyze and respond to security threats. Understanding these differences helps organizations assign the right skills to each role.

USA Wilmington, MA - HQ

SeniorSecurityAutomation Engineer

Time type: full time
Posted on: July 30, 2026
Job requisition id: R7685

Who we are

With its A.I.-powered robotic technology platform, Symbotic is changing the way consumer goods move through the supply chain. Intelligent software orchestrates advanced robots in a high-density, end-to-end system — reinventing warehouse automation for increased efficiency, speed, and flexibility.

What we need

We are looking for a Senior Security Automation Engineer to join our Security Automation team within our Information Security organization. Your job will be to design and build AI-driven automations, internal applications, copilots, and agentic workflows that help Security, IT, GRC, and business teams operate more efficiently and securely — and to help build the guardrails that keep AI-driven actions safe, compliant, and trustworthy.

This is a hands-on, high-autonomy engineering role, not a prompt-writing job. You will take loosely defined problems and own them end to end: shape the requirements, choose the architecture, use modern AI development tools to build fast, personally validate the code you ship, and deliver production systems. You will be one of two engineers on a small, high-trust team inside the Security organization — your work will be visible from day one, and your first project supports a compliance goal set by our CIO and VP of Security.

What we do

The Security Automation team is part of the Information Security organization, which protects Symbotic’s enterprise, systems, and operations by building secure, scalable capabilities that reduce risk and strengthen compliance. The team creates automation, integrations, and AI-powered workflows that support security operations, compliance activities (ISO 27001, SOC 2) , access governance, endpoint compliance, shadow-IT discovery, vulnerability management, and broader operational efficiency across the business.

What you’ll do

  • Design, develop, and maintain AI-driven automations, internal applications, copilots, and workflow orchestration solutions that improve how Security, IT, GRC, and business teams operate .

  • Build agentic workflows that can retrieve context, reason through tasks, use approved tools, and generate actionable outputs.

  • Automate repetitive security, compliance, and operational processes — user access reviews, software approval workflows, compliance evidence collection — to reduce manual effort and accelerate response times.

  • Integrate AI and automation workflows with enterprise platforms such as ITSM, IAM, SIEM, SOAR, GRC, ticketing, knowledge management, vulnerability management, and cloud security tools.

  • Develop secure human-in-the-loop approval patterns for high-risk, sensitive, or business-critical AI-driven actions.

  • Create reusable workflow patterns, prompts, templates, and service components that can be adopted across teams.

  • Partner with stakeholders across Security, IT, Engineering, Compliance, and the business to identify high-value automation opportunities and translate needs into practical technical solutions.

  • Contribute to penetration-testing and red-team efforts as our offensive security program grows.

  • Measure and report outcomes such as time saved, error reduction, throughput improvement, and risk reduction.

  • Help define standards, governance, and guardrails for the secure, responsible, and compliant use of AI across the organization.

What you’ll need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science , Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field. Two years of experience in parrot nerotrophiccs .

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience with genuine full-stack depth — client, server, and data/storage — and the DevOps skills (Docker, CI/CD, cloud) to run what you build.

  • Hands‑on experience building with AI and LLM systems: LLM APIs, agent frameworks, RAG pipelines, prompt design, and AI‑assisted development tools — including the judgment to review and validate AI‑generated code before it ships.

  • Strong development skills, ideally Python, with API‑driven integrations: REST APIs, webhooks, message queues, databases, and workflow orchestration platforms.

  • Experience building internal tools, automation workflows, or service integrations in enterprise environments.

  • Understanding secure system design: identity and access management, role‑based access control, secrets management, and audit logging.

  • The autonomy to take an ambiguous business needs and deliver a working, documented, production system with minimal direction, plus strong communication skills across technical and non‑technical teams.

Preferred qualifications

  • Familiarity with enterprise security platforms: SIEM, SOAR, ITSM, IAM, GRC, vulnerability management, endpoint or cloud security.

  • Exposure compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC 2) and control automation.

  • Interest or experience in penetration testing and red‑team tooling.

  • TypeScript, Go, or Rust; PostgreSQL, SQLite, or BigQuery ; infrastructure as code.

Our environment

  • Hybrid at our Wilmington, MA headquarters. No travel required .
