Job description

Company Description

Smart Aquatics is an aquatic engineering firm specializing in the design and engineering of high-end swimming pools, spas, water features, and complex aquatic environments.

We work alongside architects, developers, contractors, and owners to solve the architectural, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing challenges associated with water.

Our projects range from luxury residential pools to commercial and hospitality environments, including technically complex systems such as perimeter-overflow pools, elevated and suspended pools, acrylic pools, cold plunges, spas, and large-scale water features.

We are a detail-driven company with high expectations for technical quality, accountability, communication, and follow-through.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced MEP Engineer to take ownership of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and hydraulic design of our aquatic projects.

This is not simply a drafting position.

The person in this role is expected to understand the engineering behind the systems they design, identify problems before they reach construction, coordinate effectively with the architectural and structural disciplines, and consistently deliver complete, accurate work on schedule.

What Success Looks Like

Within this role, you will be expected to:

  • Independently develop complete MEP and hydraulic designs for aquatic projects from design development through permit and construction documents.
  • Produce coordinated, accurate drawing sets that meet Smart Aquatics' standards and require minimal correction during internal QC.
  • Properly size and specify pumps, filters, heaters, piping, drains, returns, treatment systems, electrical loads, controls, and other aquatic equipment.
  • Identify design conflicts, missing information, constructability issues, and code concerns before drawings are issued.
  • Coordinate MEP systems with architectural, structural, and equipment requirements rather than designing each discipline in isolation.
  • Consistently meet internal and client submission deadlines and proactively communicate before a deadline is at risk.
  • Review submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and field conditions and provide clear, technically sound responses during construction.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and drive outstanding items to resolution without requiring continuous follow-up from management.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with internal team members, consultants, contractors, and clients.
  • Help improve our engineering standards, details, calculations, workflows, and quality-control processes as the company grows.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in aquatic engineering, swimming pool engineering, or aquatic MEP design.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Building Services Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Strong professional experience designing MEP systems and producing construction documents.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit is required.
  • Strong understanding of pumps, piping systems, hydraulics, equipment sizing, electrical requirements, and controls.
  • Ability to read and coordinate architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings.
  • Strong understanding of applicable building codes and engineering standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to independently QC your own work.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a remote environment.
  • Experience with swimming pools, water features, water treatment, or other hydraulic systems is highly preferred.
  • Professional engineering licensure or progress toward licensure is a plus.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who takes ownership.

You do what you say you are going to do. You communicate before something becomes a problem. You don't wait for someone else to catch mistakes or tell you what needs to happen next.

You are technically strong, detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable being held accountable for both the quality of your work and the commitments you make.

  • If you want a role where you can take ownership of technically challenging projects and become a key part of a growing specialized engineering firm, we would like to hear from you.
