Job description

Alberta Health Services - North Zone is actively recruiting a Family Medicine Physician to establish a full-time practice in the community of Westlock, Alberta. This position will provide services for: Community Clinic, Emergency Room Coverage, Inpatient & Outpatient Services, & Long-Term Care.

Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or opening their own practice. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Reside in and have as his/her primary residence in the community of Westlock;
  • Establish and maintain a full-time community based practice within the community;
  • Provide fair and equal call support per call schedules, including full time participation in the Emergency Department;
  • Contribute to and participate in teaching programs and activities; interest in management;
  • Contribute to and participate in other administrative duties as assigned

Westlock is a friendly, small town that provides the security that comes from living in a community that cares for each other and reaches out to its neighbors!

With over 400 active businesses, Westlock can meet all your family needs, as well as keep you entertained with annual rodeo and music festivals. Recreation can be enjoyed through the Aquatics Centre, Rotary Spirit Centre and outdoor spaces including a skate park, ski hill, baseball diamonds, pickleball courts and more. There are over 10 kms of walking trail around the Town and an 18-hole golf course. Westlock also has a robust Arts and Culture scene with galleries, clubs and museums!

Education is available at public and catholic schools K-12. French Immersion available up to Grade 9.

As a regional health hub, Westlock Healthcare Centre is an accredited hospital consisting of 46 acute care beds with additional services including continuing care, emergency, laboratory, pharmacy, renal dialysis, rehabilitation, ultrasound, X-Ray, CT scan and MRI, anesthesia and orthopedic services.

Required Qualifications:

         Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).

Desired Qualifications:

         College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP).

         Certificate of the College of Family Physicians (CCFP) - Emergency Medicine

         Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
