XL Batteries, a Massachusetts-based development stage company focused on long duration energy storage at the grid level. About Our LocationMarlborough, MA is a beautiful small city in central Massachusetts, surrounded by quaint Massachusetts towns and within a day‑trip distance of the Berkshires, White Mountains, and Cape Cod. For those who prefer a more urban lifestyle, we are located directly off I‑495 within easy commuting distance of Boston and Cambridge (30‑40 minutes), Worcester (25 minutes), Nashua, NH (45 minutes) and Providence, RI (50 minutes).
Role DescriptionThe Chemical Process Engineer is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Marlborough, MA, responsible for developing, optimizing, and scaling chemical processes for XL Batteries’ Organic Flow Battery™ systems. Day‑to‑day tasks include designing and modeling process flows, specifying equipment, and conducting experiments and pilot‑scale trials to validate process & battery performance. The role involves monitoring and improving process control strategies, analyzing data to identify efficiencies, and implementing changes that enhance safety, quality, and cost‑effectiveness. The engineer collaborates closely with R&D, manufacturing, and operations teams to transfer new chemistries into production and troubleshoot issues in existing processes. Responsibilities also include preparing technical documentation, supporting regulatory and safety compliance, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives in a dynamic startup environment.
