Job description

NOTE: THIS POSITION IS AVAILABLE FOR REMOTE WORK WITHIN THE CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES WITH TRAVEL AS REQUIRED FOR BUSINESS NEEDS.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Instrument and Control (I&C) group is part of the Plant Systems Engineering department and provides I&C plant and component solutions for both the safety and non-safety systems of the NuScale small modular reactor. The I&C Manager leads a team of engineers responsible for the principle design and analysis of I&C systems such as Module Protection and Plant Protection systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages a team of professionals and provides assistance on technical work in line with project goals.
  • Responsible for the development of engineering deliverables that communicate the design and technical aspects of I&C systems associated with the reactor coolant system and nuclear steam supply system.
  • Leads a variety of system level and detailed analyses for I&C plant systems such as the Module Protection and the Plant Protection. Generates specifications and description of various I&C plant components.
  • Participates in the development of overall objectives of the Plant Systems Engineering department and supports the development of project work breakdown structures.
  • Understands and applies sound approaches and standards for solving technical problems in applicable discipline, and leads cross-functional projects within areas of responsibility.
  • Evaluates performance, administers counseling and conducts annual performance reviews.
  • Provides technical and advisory assistance to other projects and offices and develops technical statements of work.
  • Develops training materials, department R&D needs and proposals for participation in industry forums.
  • Develops team members’ capabilities in support of individual career goals and team objectives.
  • Interfaces and coordinates with internal and external clients as required for successful project execution.
  • Responsible for making technical decisions regarding analysis methodologies and application of NRC licensing criteria.
  • Stays abreast of industry product development and utilizes best practices to provide company with highest quality products.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Education/Certification: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering or related field. P.E. preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 8+ years of experience in I&C engineering and/or engineering management for complex systems or power plants. Lead and/or managerial experience preferred. Additional required skills and experience include:
    • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Strong organization skills and ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases. Strong technical writing skills.
    • Proven track record of leading staff from multiple disciplines and coordinating design interfaces to provide design solutions in a timely manner.
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Pay and Benefits:

The target base salary range for this position is $150,537 - $181,683 annually. The full base salary range is $134,964 - $211,098 annually.
