THE PAY RANGE FOR THIS ROLE IS $19-$22 PER HOUR. YOUR PAY RATE WILL BE DETERMINED BASED ON PREVIOUS APPLICABLE WORK EXPERIENCE AND ANY CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES YOU HOLD.
Job Summary
  • The Small to Medium Engine Mechanic supports division by providing landscape equipment repair, preventive and ongoing maintenance, modifications, and training as well as truck and trailer maintenance and light repair. The role manages parts room and supply inventories. Suggest improvements to equipment and/or processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and repair problems with 2 and 4-cycle engines, including proper testing procedures, tear-down and rebuild, proper parts replacement
  • Diagnose and repair problems in fuel, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems of all equipment
  • Diagnose and repair problems of other equipment as presented (Everything from a backpack blower to a sidewalk machine)
  • Weld and/or fabrication for repairs
  • Diagnose and perform light repairs on trucks and trailers
  • Schedule all repairs/maintenance with branch production personnel
  • Establish Preventive Maintenance Program for branch(es)
  • Work with branch(es) on scheduling preventive maintenance
  • Follow up and monitor preventive maintenance in branch(es)
  • Work with branch(es) to ensure all preventive maintenance supplies are on hand and available for branch teams
  • Perform preventive maintenance on trucks and trailers
  • Ensure annual DOT inspection is completed for all licensed vehicles
  • Estimate parts and labor involved to determine the most cost effective course in repair/replacement decisions
  • Stay aware of new equipment and advances in the field
  • Look for trends, such as deck cracking, engine failure, bearing failure, to help determine if equipment is right for job
  • Communicate identified trends to Equipment Manager
  • Purchase equipment-related parts and supplies from designated vendors
  • Maintain and control parts room/inventory
  • Utilize corporate-sponsored supply programs wherever available
  • Understand, monitor, and review vendor pricing structures
  • Stay current with new techniques and methods
  • Attend manufacturer sponsored seminars
  • Participate in applicable branch and region training events
  • Train employees on proper equipment maintenance procedures
  • Look for ways to modify or improve equipment for less down time
  • Seek better efficiencies in work processes
  • Complete and document repair orders
  • Coordinate with Branch Administrator on Purchase Orders
  • Responsible for maintaining equipment record keeping system

Education and Experience:
  • High School degree or GED
  • Minimum of 1 years of mechanical experience
  • Thorough understanding of, and experience with, 2 and 4-cycle engines
  • Experienced with and able to use all mechanics' tools
  • Understanding of basic 12-volt electrical systems
    Basic understanding of hydraulic systems
  • Basic knowledge of diesel engines
  • Understanding of basic truck and trailer wiring
  • Ability to weld and fabricate equipment for repairs or modifications
  • Able to drive all company vehicles, including those requiring CDL if necessary

Physical Demands/Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 Ibs.
  • Ability to bend, stoop and twist continuously throughout the day

Work Environment:
  • Work in/or about situations near direct automotive traffic
  • Work near or about natural bodies of water
  • Ability to work in extreme conditions - temperatures may exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Ability to work in direct sunlight for extended periods of time
