Are you mechanically inclined, customer-focused, and experienced in repairing outdoor power equipment? We are looking for a Small Engine Mechanic to join our team!

This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining small engines and outdoor power equipment while providing knowledgeable and friendly service to our customers. The Small Engine Mechanic will support equipment repair, parts sales, rental equipment, and preventative maintenance while ensuring all work is completed safely and accurately.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide world-class customer service and assist customers with equipment repair, maintenance, rental, and parts needs.
  • Diagnose mechanical and operational issues with small engines and outdoor power equipment.
  • Repair and service riding lawn mowers, walk-behind lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, pressure washers, generators, and other outdoor power equipment.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance, including oil changes, blade replacement and sharpening, filters, spark plugs, belts, and other common service needs.
  • Ensure all repaired equipment is properly tested and operating safely before being returned to the customer.
  • Clearly communicate repair findings, recommended services, and maintenance needs to customers.
  • Provide customers with guidance on proper equipment use, maintenance, and preventative care.
  • Sell, service, and support parts and equipment from brands such as Milwaukee, Toro, EGO, STIHL, John Deere, and Honda.
  • Identify and order appropriate replacement parts needed to complete repairs.
  • Maintain accurate repair records, work orders, customer invoices, and related documentation.
  • Provide service to customers in Equipment Rental, including preparing rental contracts and invoices for equipment rentals and tool repairs.
  • Inspect rental equipment before and after use to ensure it is operating properly and safely.
  • Demonstrate the safe and proper operation of equipment to customers when needed.
  • Support the maintenance and repair of Company-owned rental equipment.
  • Keep tools, equipment, workbenches, and service areas clean, organized, and safe.
  • Maintain repair equipment and tools in good working condition.
  • Communicate repair delays, parts availability, or significant equipment concerns to customers and store leadership.
  • Assist with receiving, stocking, and organizing equipment and replacement parts as needed.
  • Operate a forklift and other approved equipment after completing required training and certification.
  • Follow all Company policies, manufacturer guidelines, safety procedures, and Aubuchon's Core Values.

Work Experience
  • Previous experience repairing small engines, outdoor power equipment, automotive equipment, or similar mechanical systems preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment problems and determine appropriate repairs.
  • Familiarity with two-cycle and four-cycle engines is preferred.
  • Experience with lawn and garden equipment, power tools, and related equipment is a plus.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to explain mechanical issues and recommended repairs in a clear and helpful manner.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment.
  • Ability to work independently while also supporting the broader store team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing quality repairs.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, reach, and perform physical work throughout the shift.
  • Ability to regularly lift and move equipment and parts weighing up to 50 pounds, with team assistance or appropriate equipment used for heavier items.
  • Willingness to complete manufacturer, equipment, forklift, and safety training as required.
