Job description

Under the direct supervision of an employee of a higher classification, performs cement finishing and the laying of granolithic sidewalks or roadways. Prepares base and spreads and rakes asphalt for sidewalk or roadway installation or patching; lays brick sidewalks with either sand or mortar joints. Performs painting functions.

Operates standard trucks, and/or CDL equipment. May directly supervise employees of lower classification in the performance of their duties. Performs cement finishing and the laying of granolithic sidewalks, which includes breaking out existing concrete sidewalks or roadways, erecting wood forms for new sidewalks, speaking concrete over regarded base, and the mixing of concrete or mortar as required.

Cleans streets and spreads salt and sand as directed. Relays instructions with the operation of equipment to a small group of laborers assigned to assist work directly related to the operation of the heavy motor equipment or special equipment as the case may be Performs unskilled and semi-skilled labor duties when not operating equipment or performing skilled work; hauls tool sheds and trailers to and from supply yards as necessary. Maintain work area and equipment in a clean, safe, and operable condition and adhere to applicable safety and health rules and regulations.

Responds to routine inquiries, requests, and complaints from residents, and contractors. Constructs, fabricates, maintains, and repairs bituminous and cement roadways, sidewalks, and pathways; uses jacks hammers, concrete saws, and other equipment. Performs other duties as required from time to time including snow and other inclement weather or emergency duties.

Responds to and handles Constituent Relationship Management (CMR) cases. May use mobile technology to communicate with supervisors and inspectors regarding Constituent Relationship Management (CMR) cases. Supports other divisions in Public Works as needed (i.e

construction mgmt. - engineering etc., when they need this skilled position) Performs related work as required. Required to work and emergency as directed by the Chief of Streets or designee Applicants must have at least two (2) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, paid experience in this type or related work

Boston Residency Required. Must possess a valid CDL. Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
