Summary
THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a SMALL ARMS REPAIRER (T32), Position Description Number D1226000 and is part of the AL CSMS 1, National Guard.

Duties
Help
(1) Performs overhaul, maintenance, and repair on a variety of small arms that involve numerous parts, subassemblies, adjustments, and must be adjusted to close tolerances. Diagnoses and identifies mechanical deficiencies and/or malfunctions in weapons, such as, automatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, automatic rifles, grenade launchers, machine guns, rocket launchers, mortars, and other small arms and accessories.
(2) Disassembles weapons, assemblies, subassemblies and other components. After disassembly examines for defects, mechanical misalignment, and malfunctions. Replaces barrels, firing pins, springs, trigger mechanisms, shell ejectors, sights, safety devices, bolts, stocks and other parts and assemblies. Modifies small weapons by replacing obsolete parts. Applies finishing agents and test fires and/or performs operational checks of arms repaired to ensure safety, accuracy, and ease of operation. Applies modification work orders as required.
(3) Uses hand and power tools, precision gauges, test instruments, jigs and alignment devices in making repairs, modifications, and adjustments to small arms.
(4) Ensures the accountability, storage, and security of arms and other sensitive items while they are kept for repair, usually in vaults with limited access.
(5) May serve as a commodity inspector during Command Maintenance Management evaluations (COMET) or as a member of a Maintenance Assistance Instruction Team (MAIT).
(6) Performs other duties as assigned.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military grade in the Alabama Army National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Alabama Army National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems; the ability to recognize improper operation, locate the cause and determine best method of correcting defects; ability to use technical manuals, tools and measuring equipment in making repairs and adjustments.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training demonstrating a broad knowledge in repairing, rebuilding, modifying, and testing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems and major components of weapons equipment. Experience in diagnosing malfunctions and determining needed repairs in weapons systems. Experience demonstrating the ability to inspect all weapons systems. Experience interpreting and applying drawings, schematics, blueprints, diagrams, and specifications.
SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE:
Skill in making repairs to a variety of small arms that have parts and adjustments that are numerous and complicated. Knowledge of interrelated mechanical systems to check, repair, adjust weapons, and perform necessary work to repair or rebuild small arms is required.
Mechanical skill sufficient to work on weapons and mechanical systems in disassembly for repair, inspection to diagnose mechanical malfunctioning, and to assess wear and/or damage. Skill is also required to adjust levers, gear linkages, and synchronize interrelated mechanical systems.
Broad knowledge of weapons operation to apply technical manuals, regulations, specifications and drawings in order to determine operation, assembly, tolerances and locate causes of improper functions for a variety of weapons.
Skill in using precision gages and measuring instruments such as micrometers, optical comparators, ultrasonic checkers, magnafluxing machines, or borescopes to determine when parts are worn or damaged past acceptable specifications.
Skill in using and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools and gages that include, drills, files, saws, hammers, vises and precision gages and measuring instruments such as micrometers, optical comparators, ultrasonic checkers, magnaflux machines and/or borescopes to determine when parts are worn or damaged beyond acceptable tolerances. Skill in using simple machine tools to alter parts.
