Job description

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Slurry Superintendent to oversee and manage slurry seal operations for our pavement preservation projects. The ideal candidate will lead a slurry crew, ensure the quality and safety of slurry applications, manage materials and equipment, and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
This is a key leadership role requiring strong knowledge of slurry materials, equipment operations, crew management, and OSHA-compliant safety practices. The Slurry Superintendent will work closely with project managers and field crews to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee Slurry Seal Operations: Supervise and coordinate slurry seal operations, ensuring compliance with quality standards and client expectations.
  • Crew Management: Oversee daily duties of the slurry crew, including training, mentoring, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Ordering Materials: Manage procurement and timely delivery of materials required for project execution.
  • Creating Work Schedules: Develop and adjust schedules to align with project timelines and crew availability.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate with project managers to allocate resources, track progress, and meet deadlines.
  • Quality Control: Ensure slurry mix quality, correct application methods, and final project outcomes meet industry standards.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow and enforce OSHA safety procedures. Conduct weekly safety meetings and ensure crew compliance with PPE and job site safety protocols.
  • Equipment Oversight: Supervise the use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of slurry equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Client Communication: Act as the point of contact for clients on job sites. Provide updates, resolve concerns, and ensure satisfaction.
  • Travel Requirements: Must be able to travel in and out of town/state as job demands. Per diem provided for out-of-town work.
  • Problem Solving: Resolve issues related to materials, equipment, crew, or scheduling as they arise.
  • Reporting: Submit regular progress reports detailing job site conditions, productivity, and project status.

Requirements
Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years' experience in road construction industry (preferred experience in slurry seal or pavement preservation), with 2+ years in supervisory role.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of slurry equipment, materials, and best practices in application techniques.
  • Leadership: Strong crew leadership and team-building skills.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Safety-Focused: Thorough knowledge of OSHA safety standards; commitment to a safe job site.
  • Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with crew, clients, and management.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel out of town/state as needed.
  • Driver's License: Clean MVR
  • Drug Testing: Must be able to pass a drug test at all times.
  • Physical Requirements: Able to work outdoors in varying conditions; lift heavy materials and stand for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certifications: OSHA 30-hour, First Aid/CPR, or other relevant safety certifications.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in construction management is a plus.
  • Software Skills: Familiarity with project management or construction tracking software.
