Our PPD® Laboratory Services team has a direct impact on improving patient health through the expertise of scientists, industry thought-leaders and therapeutic experts. As the world leader in serving science, our laboratory professionals bring their commitment to accuracy and quality to deliver groundbreaking innovations.
As a Senior Scientist, your role will be to conduct advanced diagnostic tests, ensure the highest accuracy and reliability of laboratory data, mentor junior scientists, and drive continuous improvements in laboratory methodologies and quality standards.
What You’ll Do:
•    Carry out laboratory functions, plan and design experiments and apply technical knowledge and skills to achieve project goals in a precise and timely manner.
•    Optimized protocols for yeast display, cell free protein synthesis to achieve better expression and higher sensitivity for antibody screening.
•    Identify and troubleshoot critical issues with screening assays, resolving them promptly to ensure consistent progress and quality.
•    Collaborate cross-functionally with automation group to coordinate antibody screening and align with biology scientists within company to ensure the antibodies are being tested on time.
•    Design and carry out secondary screening strategies using HTS liquid handlers.
•    Antibody affinity maturation, optimize humanization and improve antibody developability.
•    Keep accurate experimental documentation using Benchling and maintain well-organized inventory of antibodies and antigens.
•    Present data in antibody group meetings and project meetings.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification
• Previous experience to provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 4-6 years).
In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

•    Strong background of molecular biology or biochemistry with good GPA. 
•    Well understanding of antibody structure and function relationships.
•    Comprehensive protein engineering techniques.
•    Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to present scientific data in team meetings.
•    Demonstrated strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills, showing a proactive attitude towards exploring new approaches.
•    Able to collaborate and help other scientists.
Working Conditions and Environment:
• Work is performed in a laboratory and/or a clinical environment with exposure to electrical office equipment.
• Occasional drives to site locations, occasional domestic travel.
• Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms.
• Rare exposure to skin and lung irritants, radiation, toxic materials and hazardous waste.
• Personal protective equipment is required such as protective eyewear, garments and gloves.
• Exposure to fluctuating and/or extreme temperatures on rare occasions.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work in an upright and /or stationary position for 6-8 hours per day.
• Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists to operate lab equipment.
• Occasional mobility needed.
• Occasional crouching, stooping, with frequent bending and twisting of upper body and neck.
• Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including luggage and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 15-20 lbs.
• Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.
• Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
• Frequently interacts with others to obtain or relate information to diverse groups.
• Works independently with little guidance or reliance on oral or written instructions and plans work schedules to meet goals. Requires multiple periods of intense concentration.
• Performs a wide range of variable tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence. Ability to perform under stress. Ability to multi-task.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $34.00–$44.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
