Job description

 JOB DESCRIPTION

 JOB TITLE:           Life Skills Worker

DIVISION:              Homeless Services

FLSA:                    Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO:     Service Coordinator

LOCATION:          White Plains, NY

SALARY:             $40,000.00 -$42,000.00/Annual

SUMMARY: 

A key component of this job is to assist clients in their physical, social, emotional and daily life skills development.

This increases their independence and allows them to function appropriately in the community. Life Skills training, either one-

to-one or in a group environment is provided.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists clients with issues such as housekeeping, time management, stress management, budgeting, interpersonal
  • skills and identifying community supports and resources in order to promote self-sufficiency.
  •  Engage families and develop a supportive, strength-based coaching relationship with them.
  •  Assists clients with understanding the importance of self-care, including taking care of their personal hygiene.
  •  Develops a customized life skills plan with families that details the goals to be accomplished, identification of obstacles
  • and plan of action.
  •  Provides education, training, workshops and offers materials that will further assist the residents to live in a clean and
  • safe environment.
  •  Maintains accurate written record of services provided to families and all required documentation in accordance with
  • Westhab and WCDSS requirements.
  •  Maintains demographic and other needed information regarding residents for use in statistical reporting through
  • Client Track HMIS and other databases.
  •  Submits accurate, timely reports as requested
  •  Attends monthly Town Hall meetings
  •  Assists Housing Case Managers with bi-weekly room inspections.
  •  Support clients in securing social services benefits.
  •  Maintains contact with all necessary collaterals and attends appropriate meetings
  • Maintains on-going communication with Program Director and Housing Case Managers on all aspects of the work
  •  Other duties as required or assigned by supervisor

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTs:

A minimum of an Associate’s degree or at least 2 years of experience working with the homeless and re-entry population,

substance abuse and/or mental health concerns. Successful applicant must have strong written and verbal communication

skills; must be able to engage hard to reach families and understand trauma informed strength-based work.; must be sensitive

to the needs of a culturally diverse population; must possess good organizational skills and have a high attention to detail.  

Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize work assignments, and maintain confidentiality. Bi-lingual Spanish a plus
