Position Overview

Active Skill Wellness is actively seeking a dedicated and skilled Occupational Therapist to join our team in Roanoke, Virginia. This full-time role is designed for professionals passionate about pediatric care and is pivotal in enhancing the quality of life for children through targeted therapeutic interventions.

This position is located onsite at our state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility in Roanoke, Virginia. Key Responsibilities

The Occupational Therapist will independently evaluate the functional abilities of pediatric patients, conducting detailed assessments that include standardized tests, clinical observations, and patient/family interviews. You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and executing individualized treatment and educational plans tailored to maximize each child’s developmental potential.
  • Providing comprehensive patient and family counseling, equipping them with the tools and knowledge needed for ongoing support.
  • Creating innovative treatment strategies focused on improving fine motor skills, self-care abilities, and sensory processing.
  • Documenting all clinical findings meticulously and consulting with medical and allied health professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to patient care.
  • Offering substantial expertise in pediatric feeding and swallowing impairments, enhancing the therapeutic effectiveness for our clients suffering from these challenges.
Patient Population / Client Focus

This role will specifically cater to children, including those who may exhibit developmental delays or disorders. Our patients commonly demonstrate a need for specialized intervention due to conditions like autism spectrum disorder. You will play an essential role in their growth and rehabilitation, profoundly impacting their daily lives and family dynamics.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must hold at least a Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy from an AOTA accredited program. Other requirements include:

  • Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • Current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers, issued by the American Heart Association.
  • A valid driver’s license and, if applicable, auto insurance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and utilize critical thinking to make informed, strategic decisions in patient care.
Preferred Experience

While not mandatory, the following qualifications are preferred to enhance your fit for this position:

  • A Doctorate Degree in Occupational Therapy (non-MD).
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience in pediatric occupational therapy.
  • Board certification in advanced practice specialties such as Sensorimotor, Hand Therapy, or Physical Agent Modalities.
